with most phones (not all, there are exceptions) you need a specific code that only your carrier can give you, and they charge you for this (also, they won't give it to you if you have not fulfilled your contract)

I'm not sure if it works this way or not, but if u still have your sim for your carrier then it should fit in the new phone? if so maybe you could use your carrier after all!

You said you removed a SIM card from the MetroPCS/Huawei phone? Last I knew, Metro was a CDMA carrier, therefore it has no SIM.fate6 wrote:That's not how SIM locks work :/

i tried this method once and its working but i heard we'll lose our IMEI no.
Once you have rooted your phone go to efs directory ( preferably use ES File explorer)
from ES file explorer
- Launch it
- Goto "Settings> File Settings". Be sure that Show hidden files is checked
- Also be sure is checked "Settings > Root Explorer"
- In "Settings > Home directory" write "/" (without the quotes)
explore the "efs" folder in the root
- move the following files in a backup folder somewhere to your internal SD card (you will need them if you want to restore later to original phone setup) : .nv_core.bak, .nv_core.bak.md5, .nv_data.bak, .nv_data.bak.md5, nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5. Moving them they will be deleted from the efs folder (that's ok).
Reboot.
Now you will have it unlocked but with the generic IMEI.

owh, if i'm not mistaken Huawei-M931 is a CDMA phone, it doesn't support GSM network
Maybe that's the reason why "EFS" folder is absent.
