Hello there!
So I recently bought this psp testing tool and I decided to see what CFW and homebrew is possible. I understand that HEN can work however have not really any idea of where to start and don't want to lose the original firmware or anything original on the flash memory.

Would appreciate links or ideas towards things to try and test out. I would love to have this tool fully backed up and then safely be able to install CFW for emulation and things.

There is nothing special about the 6.60 firmware on those units, the update file for these is available, you don't need to safekeep it. That said you will need to enable service mode on your unit to install a cfw (or run one from memory stick), this implies opening the unit and switching P24 on the S3503 switch to position on (the switch is on the motherboard, not too far from the DVD PATA header).

HEN will not work as is on the 6.60 testingtool firmware because they use a different memory layout than retail and it hasn't been ported, don't bother trying.
