How powerful is the ps vita?(emulation wise)
Re: How powerful is the ps vita?(emulation wise)
Vita's CPU isn't clocked on 444 mhz !!!
Re: How powerful is the ps vita?(emulation wise)
Yes it is. The New 3DS is higher clocked than the Vita. Deal with it.maxivo wrote:Vita's CPU isn't clocked on 444 mhz !!!

The general perception that better specs = better games is rubbish. Always has been. Atari vs Colecovision/Intellivision. NES vs Master System. SNES vs Genesis. PS1 vs N64. PS2 vs Xbox and GameCube. etc etc etc. Specs aren't as important as optimization and devoted developers.
Unfortunetely, I don't see Vita homebrew ever quite taking off as it has on other platforms. The barrier to entry will affect the size of the community. We happy few who are hardcore Vita fans are in the minority with lots of people perfectly content with mindless touch only cellphone games.
I'm sure the emulators will get better than they are now, but don't expect to see full speed Dreamcast emulation. The best can hope for is that PSP and PS1 will get full fledged emulators that then just use Sony's code so they both work perfectly. There are a ton of PSP games I would love to play on my Vita, but can't because they're not on the store.

Can't it be overclocked with Henkaku? Also, cpu speed isn't the only variant to take into consideration.snk4ever wrote:It is much less powerful than a current high-end smartphone.
The Vita uses ARM Cortex-A9 cores at max 444 MHz. The cortex A9 was used in the Samsung Galaxy S2 at 1.2 GHz (almost 3 times the clock).
PSP and PS1 work well because Sony did wonders in their own emulators. They must have some really skilled engineers.
They just put MIPS hardware there and made that do the work instead.

if i understand correctly what Yifan lu says
https://henkaku.xyz/developer/
Public API/SDK / PSM Application seems to be limited to 400 Mhz.
But private API for trusted developper can use real PSVita power and maybe change clock speed.
In Wikipedia page

For exemple PSTV don't use battery so we can expect to increase clock speed. The PlayStation Vita is capable of 2 GHz clock speed, but normally outputs an unknown speed lower than this to increase battery life and keep the device from overheating

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerVR#S ... 28SGXMP.29 Uh yes it does? The GPU is the same as the Ipad. It's just between the 2nd and 3rd gen. If you're thinking of the CPU than it doesn't really matter for video games.eighthdayregret wrote:Nope. ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore.
