[Tutorials] PS2 Thread: Softmod, game backups, homebrew
Re: [Tutorial] How to softmod your PS2 slim/fat with Free Mc
Do I need to swap the disc everytime I use a backup, or is that only the first time to install the softmod?

Just the first time, that's the good thing. But, you need to patch the .iso before you burn it. You will need to download the ESR Patcher, it's a very, very simple tool. Just click "patch", select your .iso, and then it should say that it was successful. When you want to play the backup, it should autostart the ESR program to boot your game.

OKies. I'm not that far yet, since I don't have any of the games needed, but that's good to know for when I do, since if I needed to swap everytime, it'd be pointless with a phat, cause it would need to stay open.

Pointless for fat, still pretty pointless for slim. You would have to play the game with the lid open... Just makes me feel uncomfortable.

I'm confused now, since you contradicted yourself.

Oops, sorry if I confused you. I was talking about the slim. So, short answer: you play with everything in its original place, no lids open at all.
Correct Method / a few Questions?
Well, I think It's time I ask a few questions of you guys out here.
There are 2 parts to my post, so feel free to answer both
Part 1-
Let me tell you my Situation here first:
PS2 Slim, SCPH-77001, 6c Data code (I think)
Games that I own/can borrow:
Wave Rally - CD
Lego Star Wars - CD
Lego SW2: Original Trilogy - DVD
Test Drive Unlimited - DVD
American Idol - DVD (Supposedly works with ELF exchanging, according to an anonymous source?)
Tony Hawks Project 8 - DVD
DDR Max 2 - DVD
DDR Supernova - DVD
So, I have my PS2 completely modded. For sure, all 3 of my sensors blocked, it works with the lid open like a charm.
My first question is, is my PS2 able to install uLaunchElf.ELF files. Is it at all possible.
Also, I noticed one minor flaw in your tutorial - You said to change the TOC size to 915196, when the uLaunchElf.ELF file you gave us is a size of 869464 bytes!
What do I truley enter into Apache??
Part 2 -
So here is what I think I am going to do so far -
1. Find a compatible .ELF game
2. Copy it to an ISO
3. Open it with Apache, find the ELF, change the file TOC size to match that of the uLaunchELF's
3. Replace the .ELF file
4. Burn the new ISO to a DVD-R at LOW SPEED ( ISO9660/UDF encoding )
5. Put in the original Game to the PS2 (from factory)
6. 2-3 seconds after the PlayStation Boot Logo, replace the ORIGINAL DVD with the BURNED COPY
(If I get a error message from here, then I will just restart and skip step 6, and instead put in the new Burned DVD when the PS2 is NOT loading anything from the disc. [Such as a menu, etc.])
7. Locate the changed .ELF file from within the game menu (Or wherever it is)
8. Run it and hope it runs uLaunchELF
So does everything sound alright?
Thanks so much you guys for reading!!
(First post in a loooong time btw )

Re: [Tutorial] How to softmod your PS2 slim/fat with Free Mc
Oops, it is 869464. Sorry.
Everything else is looking pretty good, it should work with all of your sensors blocked. You could just go out and try to find an Agent Under Fire, probably the easiest to launch from and you can avoid wasting a blank disc if the launch is misplaced.

What I am going to do is replace a file inside of my American Idol DVD Backup.
I am sure it is an ELF file, so cheers for your tut
It's so nice to have helpful people out there like you

Your welcome! But you have to know when the PS2 uses the .ELF file, for example, the DRIVING.ELF file in Agent Under Fire starts when you play a level with vehicles.
