Vanguard Quasi-theme (Discussion)

Post by KF1 »

Technically, I don't think Vanguard fits in this forum as an actual theme but I'm not sure where else to bring this topic up as it really doesn't involve changing the Wagic Game as a whole.

For those of you not familar with Vanguard rules please have a look at this link:

http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/produc ... roductinfo

This is one of the last oddball things I remember about MTG before I gave up playing over ten years ago.

My tentative thoughts are with some tweaking Wagic can support a good number of the abilities on these oversized character cards.

Eladamri, for example, may be hard to do at the present time since we don't have Banding or any ways yet to transfer damage taken by creatures to other targets such as the player. Some of the other abilities might be aliased like enchantments or world enchantments but I'm not 100% sure how to do this.

If you go into the rules folder in Wagic you can see that the Default mtg file shows:

[INIT]
mode=mtg
[PLAYERS]
life:20
auto=shuffle
auto=draw:7
auto=@each my draw:draw:1

I would think that the "starting life" Number and the "auto draw:" Number could easily be modified the only problem aside from the basic character card ability might be figuring out how to match up the starting mtg file with the appropriate character avatar.

Perhaps this mtg file could be used similar to the addon.txt for the additional non-official cards or even be selectable for new players or those of us wanting to try a different way to play the game solo.

Now with some brain power collected from this forum I am guessing that somebody will figure out how to do these cards, LOL.

use type=player, most of the card on that list look almost stupid easy, the only hard part it the hand size increaser...that would need to be coded in wagic, however it really does NEED to be coded since it used by real cards "you have no maximum hand size" type cards...

once i start up on my coding fenzy ill look into archenemy and this...i can pretty much look at a card now and tell if its going to be easy or hard to code...and these look..and i mean this...stupid easy.

I would hazard to say that Planechase cards would also be just as easy for you.

now those i dont think are possible, unless someone codes a dice into the source.

Well, to be honest Zethfox, I want the Archenemy set much more than Planechase or Vanguard. However, I wonder if Wagic could give us the Option to play Vanguard, Planechase or Archenemy in addition to Classic or Story mode.

C'mon Wololo, weigh in on the Planechase set. I imagine this would involve coding a setting to chose a Planechase option and the pay X mana to roll a die X times...

Planechase looks really nice and could be added with some little work. It's just not one of my priorities for now. Bug fixes and the story mode are my current priorities.
But in the long term I want the "game modes" to be more flexible. We shouldn't need to add code in order to have new game modes...

archenemy and planechase can be done wololo...if i could figure out how to make it so the screen uses a different GUI set up when you select them as a game mode...im sure i can figure out coding a 2nd deck with the "planes" and "Schemes"

I'd like to move to a "GUI slightly configured with an xml file" scheme but I'm not sure how far I want to go with this...it has to integrate with the themes, and the current options (vertical/horizontal hand, etc...)
