Planning on getting a PSP
Planning on getting a PSP
I'm planning on getting a PSP so that I can play Wagic on it. What do I need to get in terms of accessories and the like in order to be able to do that successfully?
Buying a PSP...
I'm buying a PSP 3000, probably this weekend, and I'd like to know how to install the game onto that system and what accessories that don't come with the standard package I need to purchase. Also, I'd like some verification that I can download the game and picture files right from the PSP.

If possible, grab a PSP 1000 or 2000 on ebay (or similar), then you won't have any problems.timmermac wrote:I'm buying a PSP 3000, probably this weekend, and I'd like to know how to install the game onto that system and what accessories that don't come with the standard package I need to purchase.
Otherwhise you will need something like this:
Half Byte Loader
You don't need any special equipment for playing that doesn't come with the standard package, unless you won't touch your PSP without a protective Hello Kitty skin foil
It wouldn't be impossible with a browser and a file browser I think, but it's much more comfortable to download the files via PC and transfer them to the psp (it would be impossible for SVN files anyway, because you need to compile them before playing).timmermac wrote: Also, I'd like some verification that I can download the game and picture files right from the PSP.
Re: Planning on getting a PSP
Does the package come with a memory card/stick big enough or should I buy one? If I need to buy one, what size should I get? Will a new PSP come with what I need to hook it up to a computer, or is that a separate accessory that I need to buy?
Re: Planning on getting a PSP
It depends on the package, some do some don't. I personally got the standard 3000 kit, which is probably what you would be getting, and it only came with the PSP, a bunch of manuals, and the plug. I had to buy my own memory card, and I already had a cable for connecting it so I didn't need to worry about it. It is a standard mini-usb connector that most MP3's use.
Also, the only thing you need to worry about is firmware version. So long as it is 6.20 or lower, you should be fine. Just make sure not to upgrade it once you get it unless you absolutely have to(Especially if you are lucky enough to get something like 5.03, which doesn't need HBL)

Re: Planning on getting a PSP
Is there an easy way to tell what firmware version the unit will have?
Re: Planning on getting a PSP
best to get a psp 2000 model if you can find the "god of war" red psp, or a "star wars edition" white psp...youre gold!! those are by far the easiest psps to hack, taking about 5 mins to do....if you end up with a t88v3 or a psp 3000 or pspgo, then its going to be a MAJOR pain in the **** to get custom stuff on it...or it will require things like HBL...
the reason i suggest the GoW or Starwars is cause those only shipped out with the hackable mobos...the madden and rachet and clank versions are 50/50 chance of easy hacking and the piano black psp 2000 have a REALLY high chance to having the non-hackable MoBo...theres a guide somewhere on the net that will help you pick a psp by serial numbers....google hackable psps..if you want a truely hackable psp then its something youre not going to be able to get "brand new- never used" if you find either of the 2 i mentioned on ebay in an unopened box, its worth every penny they ask for it. if you get a used one that has scratchs on the screen, keep in mind that you can buy replacement outter cases for them and with a little work have a nearly brandnew psp.
oh and hackable vs HBL enabled psp are completely different stories...i have 3 hacked psp 2000s and i run full custom XMBs, iso cso dex support, multi layer folder sorting, many mnay other features that a psp 3000 with just HBL on it cant do...which is why i suggest getting a used 2000 vs a psp 3000 or go.

Re: Planning on getting a PSP
I confirm Zethfox's comment, a hackable 2000 is the best deal nowadays.
In terms of accessories, you'll need a usb cable (usb -> mini usb).
For the memory stick, I'd say 64MB is a minimum requirement for Wagic, but you'll be better with 4,8, or 16GB if you can afford it

i was going to go the 32 gig route with my psps using the PhotoCR multimini but mana those micro mini sds are EXPENSIVE the whole set up would run me about 130bucks..each psp. i decided to pass on it for now.wololo wrote:I confirm Zethfox's comment, a hackable 2000 is the best deal nowadays.
