Hot Shot Golf Hello World (US) crashes my PSP...

Post by Organized_Chaos »

I have a PSP-2001. Originally it had 5.50 GEN-D3 firmware. I tried to use the Hello World on my PSP just to see if it would work since I have the Hot Shot Golf game on UMD. It just caused the PSP to crash. I upgraded to 6.00 - same thing happened. It crashed when I upgraded to 6.10 and 6.20 as well. Is this exploit only made for 6.30 and 6.31? When the HBL eventually gets ported to the US save data, I'd like to be able to take screenshots for my HBL tutorial on PSP-Hacks (which I can still do on 6.3x it just requires extra hardware). So that's why I'm so interested in trying this.

---PSP-2001, any firmware. TA-085v1 motherboard
---I have not tried 6.30/6.31 since I have limited bandwidth, 30MB is rather large for me right now to DL
---I just copied over the h.bin file to the root and the save data to the PSP/SAVEDATA/folder.

I have tested the exploit on a Phat with 5.50 GenD, and a 3000 with 5.50 GenC for Hen. I haven't tested anything else... I would assume that the h.bin has been copied in a wrong folder, but you are experienced with that kind of stuff already so that's quite unlikely :|

I decided to try it on my phat with 5.00 M33 using a different memory stick and I still get the same result. I'm going to redownload the files again, maybe they became slightly corrupted while transferring hundreds of miles through the atmosphere to and from the satellite which all my internet goes through :(.

This is what I need to be using for the US UMD of Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, right? http://wololo.net/download.php?f=hsg-poc-wololo.zip

What is the MD5 checksum of the h.bin I should be using? MD5 checksum of the savedata? I'd like to verify that I have the correct files. I've downloaded the file multiple times from your website and PSP-Hacks. I even managed to get 6.31 on my slim. All I get is the little UMD in the bottom left of the screen, then it crashes. h.bin in the root, savedata in the PSP/SAVEDATA/ folder. Does it matter if I have savedata for other games on the memory stick? Perhaps tomorrow I'll try formatting the memory stick and I'll try again.

Okay, time to format the memory stick and try again, my files match up with your files.

Also, just verifying, your save files are located at: Root:\PSP\SAVEDATA\UCUS98614\*Files* ?
It sounds like everything is setup properly to me....... :?:

I formatted the memory stick and it still crashed. I guess it's time for me to learn how to use PSP Link so I can get a detailed report of what is happening so someone can help me fix this problem. (*cough* Wololo *cough*) ;)

If I use my own save, it will load fine. The Hello World save crashes the PSP.

I'm 99% sure I have done everything correctly. I say 99% and not 100% because I must have messed up somewhere...

I would personally say 100%...... you've got it exactly as I do.

I mean, the only differences shouldn't make a difference as they have nothing to do with HBL...

Left is me, Right is you.

I was going to record the crash using psplink but I can't seem to get psplink to do anything. I'm just not going to worry about it. I know I have it installed right so I know I can teach other people how to install it when they ask me.

I'm having the exact same issue, only with firmware 6.30. PSP 2001 also.

I'd submit an official bug report, but I don't get a dbglog file.

All the right files are in the right places, game starts to load, little UMD in the corner, black screen for a few seconds, and the PSP shuts off.

Hopefully my adding a "me too" voice to the pile helps development in some small way. ;)
