For those of us who want the ultimate retro gaming experience, there’s the Hyperkin RetroN 5. For the rest of us, the Sony Playstation Portable is one of the best machines of its generation when it comes to emulation. Its little sister, the PS Vita, has the same benefits thanks to VHBL and TN-V. NES, GBA, SNES, If you can think of an older generation console, the PSP and the Vita have it.
On this page, we provide download links for all emulators that run on the Sony Playstation Portable & the PS Vita.

1. What you need
A variety of emulators exist for the Playstation Portable and the Sony PS Vita. Explaining to you how to install and run them is not the main goal of this article, but you will need to get your console ready first. Check the explanations below:
- If you want to run emulators on your PSP, you will in general need to run a Custom Firmware on your PSP. Installing a Custom Firmware on your PSP is a 5 minutes riskless procedure, and we explain how to do it here.
- If you want to run emulators on your Vita, you will need to run a custom Firmware or VHBL. The procedure to achieve that is described here . You will also need to use one of the scene’s mods of the content manager assistant, in order to copy files to your Vita.
2. Emulators Downloads
The links below are download links for emulators that will run on the PSP and the PS Vita. However, we do not provide any links to “roms”. Additionally, a few emulators require a “bios” file which we cannot distribute for legal reasons. You have to provide your own. Details on how to install those emulators and additional help can be found below.
The download links below are kept up to date regularly in order to guarantee we provide the latest and greatest version of each emulator. When several options are possible, we added alternatives in parenthesis. But if you find better, please let us know!

So whats the limitations on the different PSPs?
I would love to buy one simply for emulation but I don’t need the latest and greatest games. For example, can a PSP 1000 emulate well enough or would it be better to get a PSP 2000 or 3000?
I know nothing on PSPs but theres a few games I’d like to play, like some of the GTA titles and emulation for possibly 6th gen and down.
Can anyone make a recommendation for me?
Thanks guys
That’s almost a religious war at this point.
The PSP1000 is cheaper, feels sturdier, but has less ram (32MB). It will be limited with some homebrews that take advantage of the extra ram on other models. e.g. Daedalus64, Wagic…
The PSP2000 and PSP3000 have 64MB ram. It means better homebrew compatibility, and support for additional plugins, as well as official software such as Skype. Arguably, the screen of the PSP2000 is better
The PSPGo, my personal favorite, doesn’t have a UMD drive (important to have if you want to play official games) and a smaller screen. It is much more portable than the others.
Nobody likes the PSPE1000, avoid it.
if scanlines/screen quality are an issue for you
you should go with a psp go 2000 or e1000
stay away from the 3000
psp 3000 is the best
id say since psp came out during the end of the ps2s life spain psp games or movies look better with scanlines
Plus all the Japanese iso u can have is mad
can anyone reupload Picodrive (sega genesis/megadrive) for the VHBL . The links does not work . Thanks in advance 🙂
Great article, ust what I wanterd too find.
Are there no game cube emu’s? the resident evil games were better on the game cube. but i guess with only 1 stick the psp could struggle to emulate it.
seems like the vita could do it, maybe not a full speed but it could do it
It would be physically impossible on the PSP. The PSP is comparable in processing power to the PS2. The GameCube was TECHNICALLY more powerful than the PS2 (reason most people say it’s less powerful is due to the disks limiting it’s storage capabilities) Also, the PSP lacks dual analog sticks, so any game requiring more than one stick would not work. (read: the majority of GameCube games.)
what about the vita and HENkaku

what is the maximum capacity that PSP 3000 can use?
I’m about to buy a PSP 3000 to make it my mobile emulator.
I want to buy the biggest one it can support so I can hold much NES, SNES, GENESIS, PS1 and PSP game as possible.
The PSP model it self does not have anything to do with memory size. You’re fine buying a PSP 3000, you’ll need a suitable memory stick though; I’d go with one that has 4GB – 8GB of memory space on it.
But this one (16GB) is even better and a great deal http://amzn.to/2nskodL That should suit you well.
And make sure to get a PSP 3000 or 2000, not a 1000 (as it is not as powerful as the 3k or 2k PSP models)
If you use a photofast cr-5400(dual micro sd adapter) then the firmware has a limit of 1 or 2tb(only up to 256gb has been tested).
get better soon… thanks to this I am wearing my super heavy canvas pants on my way to work today. Made by TAD, they look pretty good too… they’re not specifically made for motorbikes but that material is so heavy and stiff it almost stands on its own – I think it’ll do really well in a low speed crash.
Men simply could not handle PMS, Cramps, childbirth or Menopause. If they had to go through this stuff valium would be sold over the counter.Going through perimenopause sucks. Hot flashes, night sweats, really moody. Husband doesn’t get it.Daughter always asks why do women get stuck with the ***? Hope you are having a better day!
Yo, that’s what’s up truthfully.
My recommendation to anyone looking for psp storage is it buy an MS(or M2 duo, whatever the psp uses) to micro SD adapter on amazon, i am using this and i have two 32GB cards in it and have had no problems. micro sd cards are also much cheaper than the M2 cards that sony will sell you. link to adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007EHLFCE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=wagic-20
useful

Hey wololo & co., this list is in dire need of an update now HENkaku is out (it was when Rejuvenate dropped but that never was very popular).
Great job guys this is hott. I’ve been following wololo since chickhen came to the 3000 loL. I don’t mean to sound demanding or anything but I just want to say that pspfiler was the greatest app the psp has received to me because you can download archives and extract them all through your psp. I have a vita slim now and pspfiler 6.2 doesen’t give you the full memory folders on the the vita. I hate having to use my pc to get things on here. All I want is an updated web browser(like you guys did for psp) and for the vitashell to do what pspfiler does. I’m sure someones working on it anyway. thanks in advance you guys are awesome
so…. ps1 games can be played on psvita or wut!?
Man, I hope you still reply this comment section.
There´s a way to run emulators without upgrade to version 6.60?
I have version 6.35 and I dont feel safe doing that
Thanks, english isn’t my first language.
Just update to 6.60, no risk
Thank you very much for this article! Truly amazing! 🙂
Hey, a nice list you go here. I was recently trying, again, to run snes games on my DSTT. Well, not every game worked and if they did, they had bugs/glitches. If I was to buy a PSP, which one would you recommend to me, thinking about, that I don’t want to play any PSP games at all. Playing PS1 games would be nice though, but not a must. Also, if possible, I’d like to have other emulators running as well, not just one for the snes. But that is the most important part. Can you help me out here? 🙂 I was considering the PSPGO.
I have a PSPGO with 6.60 cfw and several emulators work on it. I just started messing with them today and haven’t tried many games but they’ve all worked except for SMB2(japan) on NesterJ v1.13 NES emulator

new things you post…
I have ARK installed on my 3.63 (using the latest tutorial pasted a few days ago); and have tried the SNES and Genesis emulators, but they don’t get very far with the ROMs I have. Like, one Genesis ROM plays the intro (with messed up background tiles) and then goes to black, the other is just always black. I’ve tried several SNES ROMs, and they all either go to black or refuse to launch (I think I see some kind of checksum error before they launch but it’s too fast to catch).
sega cd?????????????????
ive recently installed ark on my ps vita 3.63 & i would lke for u to help me install emulators &roms onto it plz
Perhaps so. You need to realize, however, that any gate in the Eastern Wall is too low for someone standing on the Mount of Olives to be able to see the Temple through such a gate. Anyone standing on the Mount of Olives should be able to recognize this. I have just submitted an article on this subject to Biblical Archaeology Review in which I deal extensively with the subject of the Eastern Gate.
I’ve got a PSP 1000 – I’ve done the Firmware and all that you’ve explained – I got an N64 emulator and it opened fine, the game I chose didn’t work very well BUT everytime I keep trying to use a SNES emulator is keeps saying the data is corrupted.
