PS4 Emulation: shadPS4 now “runs” Bloodborne
PS4 emulator shadPS4 is making tremendous progress, with lead developer George Moralis particularly keen to share updates when it comes to running Bloodborne. Today, we’re seeing that the popular PS4 exclusive actually runs in ShadPS4, with a video showcasing an actual boss battle in Bloodborne. Now, you will see that there are still a lot of texture issues, but to my knowledge we’ve never been so close to running Bloodborne in a PS4 emulator.
Additionally, the emulator’s compatibility list now reports 6 games in actual “playable” state, compared to 1 about a month ago. Small beginnings* for sure, but exponential progress is being made here.
What is ShadPS4
ShadPS4 is a work-in-progress PS4 Emulator that runs on Windows and Linux. Although the list of playable games is very limited so far, the emulator is extremely promising. ShadPS4 developers have showcased games such as Bloodborne being playable (with significant texture issues, still)
One more time , bloodborne. Although we still need some hacks for getting bloodborne work , we work towards that to have the fixed shortly. Below you can see a video from ingame , we some latest additions we made it even faster that the one we posted few days ago.
To my knowledge, no other PS4 emulator ever got that close to running Bloodborne.
There is also a growing list of games that at least load and let you interact with them. Currently sitting at 44 reported games, which, as is typically the case, are mostly 2D based for now. FpPS4 still has the lead here with 112 reported playable games at the time of writing.
The latest “stable” version of ShadPS4, version 0.2.0, was released last week, and added MacOS support, significant changes to the shader compiler, and GUI improvements. Notably, the recent improvements for Bloddborne are for version 0.2.1, which isn’t officially released (although you can get the latest compiled source from the actions tab in github, see quickstart guide below)
Download and install ShadPS4 – PS4 Emulator for Windows/Linux/MacOS
You can Download ShadPS4 “stable” releases from the project’s website here, or from their github releases. Sources are also available on their github.
Check their quickstart guide to run the emulator nd get the latest nightly builds.
You will need some libraries which can be extracted from a (Jailbroken) PS4. There are certainly files being shared somewhere if you won’t extract them yourself, but that would certainly be a grey legal area, considering those libraries are technically sony’s intellectual property. From the emulator’s readme:
Shadps4 can load some modules in lle mode, some are neccesary some have HLE replacements. The folllowing fw modules are supported and must be placed under user/sys_modules folder.Tested fw modules are from fw 11.00
- libSceNgs2.sprx
- libSceLibcInternal.sprx
- libSceDiscMap.sprx
- libSceRtc.sprx
- libSceJpegEnc.sprx
- libSceJson2.sprx
Above modules should be extracted from your ps4 . We don’t provide any info or support of how to do it.

* although technically the emu has been in development for almost 2 years, interest in it exploded fairly recently
The exploded interest in emulators is very easy to explain: All the powerful handheld retro-emulator machines like the Asus Rog Ally, The Lenovo Legion Go, the MSI Claw, the GPD Win Series, machines from Ayaneo, Anbernic, Ayn (Odin) and of course the Steamdeck. In the last two years the market of handheld emulation increased significantly and so the interest in the emulators as well. Myself i have the GPD Win 4 with the 7840u AMD proc, and this machine rocks. It emulates anything and everything be it from the Atari VCS 2600 up to the X360 and Playstation 3 nearly flawlessly. Thousands of games are available (if you know where to look), adults having nostalgika and memories from the games they played in the childhood and youth, and the young people enjoy these too. And now the PS4 Emulator is making its way in big steps. I cant await, and please support the developers, tip them a coffee or even more maybe 🙂 they do all the work so we can enjoy the games and have a good time. Why? Because: WHY NOT!? lol Cheers
People are now creating mods to add more stability to Bloodborne on ShadPS4 and uploading them to Nexus mods.
Hey Wololo I have problem with MK11 ps5 dump from DUPLEX. Will ps4 dump work on ps5 ? 4.03 and 9.00 and I post here with the option to be notified on e-mail in case you give me an advice. Bottom line is whether if I should spend the time and effort to download a ps4 pkg to an externally formatted usb 3.0 sata hdd by the ps4 that has the game directly installed to it. I heard that you can use ps4 titles on both ps4 and ps5 if formatted officially by any of the consoles.
