Early Black Friday deals are here, here’s what’s in it for gamers
It’s that time of the year again, the time where our wallets hate us, but we’d feel bad missing out on a good deal. Do you folks all use the excuse of buying something for yourself while saying “the kids will love this game”, or “hey I’ve worked pretty hard this year, I guess I can treat myself”? I do that a lot, personally š
Yes, Black Friday is at the gates!
disclaimers:
- The links below are affiliate links. You don’t pay anything extra if you purchase through those links, but I do get a small commission if you do. (This is a good way to support this site if you’re blocking those pesky ads!)
- Prices are accurate at the time of writing but might change quickly. The “off xx%” is what is being reported by the retailer compared to MSRP, but in my experience does not always match the actual discount compared to recent prices.

The Best Deals so far
Here’s a TL,DR:
- SSDs for the PS5 have never been cheaper. You can get aĀ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB for $95, or if you prefer Samsung, the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB for $120. Even 4TB are getting reachable, and if you’re feeling fancy you can get the WD_Black SN850P 4TB for $299.99.
- Switch owners looking for storage should look at this nice SanDisk 1TB Micro SD for $99.99
- A handful of really good deals in PS5 games, in particularĀ Star Wars Jedi Survivor for $34.97,Ā Returnal for $29.99,Ā Star Ocean – The Divine Force for $19.99, andĀ The Crew Motorfest for $39.99
- If you’re looking for a PS5 console, The PS5 Spider-Man 2 bundle is $499 (11% off, you basically get the game for free). Also available with the Slim bundle. Understand that PS5 consoles sold on retailer currently are not hackable. If you’re looking specifically for a hackable PS5, check my guide here.
- A growing number of Amazon deals are “Prime exclusive”. If you’re not prime yet, you can most likely get a 1-month free trial. The free trial is worth it no matter what, as it will also allow you to score a few free games on Amazon Gaming at the very least. (You can also cancel the automatic renewal immediately and still keep the 1 month benefit of the free trial. You also get to keep the games)
- PS5 Controllers for $49 at Amazon. That seems to be the “expected” sale price nowadays but I don’t think they ever get cheaper, so if you need one, now’s the right time.
And a few words of advice (probably obvious, but…):
- For similar prices, I recommend getting a physical edition over a digital one, in particular because you can resell it later on. Physical still has more value than digital nowadays
- Similarly, It’s a bit sad that Sony aren’t aggressively discounting PS4 games at this point. They cost the same as the PS5 version in most cases, so when you have the choice, go with the PS5 version.

What about Xbox, Wololo???
I’m sorry folks, I really don’t follow the XBox world. You can get the Xbox Series S + Modern Warfare 3 for $500.99 (12% off) I’m not sure what qualifies as a good deal or not there (Dead Island 2 for $34.99 ?) check out the Video Game Deals section on Amazon, they have a bunch of XBox related stuff there!
For more deals, check Amazon’s Black Friday sale in the Video game category!
Hmm, those SSDs at that kind of price really don’t look bad, I’m tempted
Strongly tempted to get a 4TB personally, but I’ll probably settle for 2TB. Crucial is a great brand, they look like they’re “losing” the reputation race against Samsung and WD, but I might pick them (FWIW I already have a Samsung in my computer and no issue)
At this point for PS4 I’m only interested in either super cheap games ($9.99 and the like), or collector editions of games I really love…
Would you guys think it’s the right time to buy e.g. the PS5 Slim bundle and let it sit in the attic until a hack comes out?
Can’t tell for sure if anything’s coming, but it depends on your resources too. A retail PS5 that you buy now will be less expensive than a (currently) hackable console, but you also have no guarantee you’ll ever be able to hack it. But for sure, the “right” approach is to buy a console at some point and not update it until a hack comes out. (Might be worth registering it to a PSN account though… tough decision honestly, that means already updating…)
Any chance maybe to hack the PS5 via the PlayStation portal? No deals on this one yet I guess?
Snatched 2 PS5 controllers, thanks Wololo!
š
Nice! Storage and a new gaming monitor are on the top of my list this year
wololo – is that your house in the painting at the top? I want to live there!
Unrelated to this topic, I just got my lilygo T dongle s3 and was able to flash it and load goldhen onto it, thanks to all the work of mrdude…
Can’t wait to try it out in my ps4…
Haha I wish that were my house š
In the Switch section you mention that Shin Megami Tensei IV is for sale, but it’s not IV, it’s V.
Thanks! I will fix the typo
