User chip_dmg_ over on reddit has shared a list of compatible PS2 Games that can be loaded through the Mast1c0re exploit on your PS4 or PS5.

What is the Mast1c0re exploit for PS4/PS5?

Mast1c0re is an unpatched vulnerability on PS4 and PS5, running through their PS2 emulation layer. The vulnerability was disclosed, and described with great detail, by PlayStation hacker CTurt in September last year, and a public reimplementation was released by McCaulay Hudson early 2023.

Some specific PS2 games for PS4/PS5 are vulnerable to buffer overflows, which allows us to run unsigned code on the PS4 and PS5. The currently only known exploitable game through this vulnerability is Okage: Shadow King, a PS2 game available for PS4 and PS5 on Sony’s PSN. By loading specifically crafted save files into this game, it is possible to trigger an exploit chain on PS4/PS5 running the most recent firmwares, to then enable some (limited) homebrew capability.

So far the most “user friendly” use cases for this vulnerability have been emulators, and PS2 Game ISOs.

Running PS2 Games via the Mast1c0re Exploit

Unfortunately, if the compatibility list is to be believed, there aren’t that many games that actually accept to run without crashing at some point. Somewhere between 15% and 20% of tested games run acceptably so far, with the vast majority simply crashing. Compatibility might improve with time, but at the moment this list is just a good way for most people to not waste too much time trying (or re-trying) a game that has already been tested.

Playable games include Silent Hill 2 (Director’s Cut), Tekken 4 and Tekken 5, and Castlevania – Lament of Innocence.

In order to run PS2 Games via the exploit, you will need to use the iso loader which can be found on McCaulay’s GitHub (links below)

• To run the exploit on your PS4 or PS5, you will need a legit copy of Okage Shadow King.
• Create and run the Okage exploit following our tutorial here, but instead of the hello world, use the save data (VMC0.card) for the PS2 ELF loader: here
• Once the exploit runs on your PS5, send the iso loader ELF, then your ISO of choice to the PS5 with mast1c0re-send-file.py
