fpPS4: PS4 Emulator runs another 3D game, now supports 81 games (+Temmie’s Launcher update)

Developer Red-Prig keeps releasing updates to his PS4 emulator fpPS4, almost on a daily basis. Today testers have reported that another 3D game, Sky Force Reloaded, now runs in the emulator. 3D games are a big deal because they are more complicated to emulate than 2D games on the platform, as they use slightly more complicated libraries and dependencies. FpPS4 now officially reports 81 PS4 games as playable.
PS4 Emulator – What is fpPS4

fpPS4 is a PS4 emulator for Windows x64, more specifically a “PS4 compatibility layer (emulator) on Free Pascal”. According to the developer, this project is made for fun and just in its beginning stage.
FpPS4 already runs some commercial games. The compatibility list now shows 81 games as “playable” (60 commercial games, 21 homebrew games) and 65 more that go “ingame” (which at this point means they most likely have game-breaking issues). Playable games include Sonic Mania, Super Meat Boy, Undertale, 10 Second Ninja X, Uncanny Valley, Asdivine hearts, and Shutshimi. You’ll need a decent GPU/CPU to get playable framerates, though.

2D Games marked as “playable” play great for the most part in fpPS4 in my experience. Tiny Troopers Joint Ops is now marked as “playable” in the compatibility list, but I personally wouldn’t go that far, and simply consider it “ingame”. I doubt anyone managed to get it to run at acceptable framerates at the moment.
BrutalSam has a video showcasing Sky Force running on fpPS4:
In parallel, fpPS4 can also be enhanced with a GUI such as Temmie’s fpPS4 launcher, which has been seeing lots of improvements lately as well.

Note: If you like Red-Prig’s work on fpPS4, you can support him on Boost.
- People with a github account can download the latest builds regularly from the project’s github page. At this point that’s actually what I recommend you get (alternatively you can get the older 0.0.1 release here)
- Temmie’s launcher can be downloaded here
This seems to be going in the right direction for emulation. Its seems that progress is faster than initial PS3 days with RPCS3. Instead of many years, we may be seeing running commercial 3D games as soon as in 2 years? Just guessing but definitely excited about it. A super huge thanks to the contributors on github.
Best of luck to the fpPS4 team. Good to see a new ps4 emulator make great progress since spinedev hasn’t updated spine since may of last year. That and the fact spine is closed source so it’s code is useless in terms of progress.
the big ones to get working in terms of preservation would be:
Racthet & Clank (ps4 remake)
Bloodborne
Infamous First Light
Infamous Second Son
