PS4 Scene Developer Sistr0 has released GoldHEN 2.3 for the PS4. Version 2.3 brings plugin support to the popular Custom Firmware, which is massive news. This follows a stream of pretty strong updates for GoldHEN, including support for patches at runtime a few weeks ago.

What is GoldHEN for PS4?

GoldHEN is a Homebrew ENabler for the PS4, packed with features. For all intents and purposes, you can think of it as a PS4 Custom Firmware. It offers in particular a remote package installer, an FTP Server, and a binLoader, meaning it’s pretty much the only thing you need to load when you Jailbreak your PS4, to have a lot of options at your disposal.

GoldHEN also supports plugins, cheats and patches, with easy access to online repositories for those game mods.

GoldHEN 2.3 – What’s new, and why are plugins a big deal?

Plugins make game modding much easier – Source Modded Warfare

If you’ve been keeping up with Sistr0’s recent releases, then the main new feature here with 2.3 is definitely plugin support. Plugins mean you can enrich the Custom Firmware with additional code. In other words, you won’t necessarily have to wait for a new GoldHEN release to get a new feature you’ve been waiting for. This makes the Custom Firmware incredibly flexible and no doubt that this will be very popular.

There’s an official Plugin repository, with a good explanation on how to run them (credits to Illusion for a lot of the work the repo). Plugins already available include:

• AFR (Application Folder Redirector) – Redirects file calls to /data
• Button Swap – Swaps X and O (useful for Asia region consoles)
• Fliprate remover – Removes framerate limit for some games
• Game patch – Patches games before boot
• No share blocks – Removes image watermark, video and screenshot blocks from games

Which by the way brings the question of whether some features of GoldHEN should possibly be moved to plugins instead. I feel like the retro scanlines feature recently introduced could be a good candidate for that…

GoldHen 2.3 – Download and Run

You will need a Jailbroken PS4 to run these tools.
