PS Vita Release: Zelda 3 Vita

Developer Rinnegatamante has released a Vita port of Zelda3, a reimplementation of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past with several enhancements.
What is Zelda3 for PS Vita
Zelda3 is a port of A link to the past, originally developed by snesrev. Zelda3 is pretty much A Link to the past as you remember it, with a lot of Quality-Of-Life enhancements:
Some features have been added that are not supported by the original game.
- Secondary item slot on button X (Hold X in inventory to select).
- Displays max rupees, bombs and arrows with yellow or orange color.
- Extends throwing bombs to four instead of two.
- Support for MSU audio tracks.
- Support for enhanced aspect ratios of 16:9 or 16:10.
- Switching current item with L/R keys.
- Reordering of inventory by pressing Y+Arrows.
- Higher quality map screen.
- Disable low health beep.
- Pick up items and destroy pots with Sword.

It’s a pretty good implementation of a really good game, so you might want to give this version a try instead of running the game in your typical emulator.
Download and Install Zelda 3 for PS Vita
You will need a hacked PS Vita in order to run this homebrew game. The easiest way to install Vita Homebrew is to get an “appstore” homebrew such as VitaDB Downloader. Alternatively, you can Download the VPK from the VitaDB page here.

How to set up
You need to extract the file zelda3_assets.dat from a dump of your own The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past US SNES cartridge. To do so:
- Download Python installer and install
- Open the command prompt
- Type “python -m pip install –upgrade pip” and hit enter
- Type “python -m pip install –upgrade Pillow” and hit enter
- Type “python -m pip install –upgrade pyyaml” and hit enter
- Close the command prompt
- Follow these steps: https://github.com/snesrev/zelda3/wiki/2.-Cloning-and-Setup
- Place zelda3_assets.dat file in ux0:data/zelda3/tables
Options
Several options can be changed by editing the file ux0:data/zelda3/zelda3.ini.
If you care more about framerate than widescreen, 4:3 aspect ratio is suggested to be set. (4:3 ensures game is always fullspeed whilst with widescreen, sometimes game drops down around 45 fps).

If only it was the Super Metroid / Link to the Past crossover, that would really be interesting. Still, worth having a look at it for the 16:9/10 aspect ratio. Damn the FPS drop…
is there a vpk or a deb or a repository ubuntu ppa ?
All Debian packages were made using game-data-packager on Ubuntu 20.10. Most of these were created directly from Steam & GOG files and few from software disks.
The following command was use to generate individual packages:
game-data-packager foobar –download –everything –binary-executables /game_source_directory
I hate creating these again and again after installing Linux on every new system. So I created these and uploaded for my convenience.
Use this only if you own all of the below software.
Note that for most of these you will also need to apt install the game engine.
These can be installed using the following command:
sudo apt install foobar.deb (where foobar is the name of the Debian package)
This collection includes the following:
doom Doom (including Ultimate Doom)
doom2 Doom 2: heck on Earth
doom3 Doom 3 (original or BFG Edition)
enemy-territory Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
etqw Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
final-doom (plutonia, tnt)

Please add that they are only responsible for the port, and mention the main project this port was based off of that did the heavy lifting https://github.com/snesrev/zelda3
It’s literally stated in the first sentence that it is a Vita port of Zelda3. I get that it’s a bit of an “inception” thing because Zelda3 itself is a reimplementation of Link to the past, but the first sentence also states that.
Edit: that being said, you actually make a good point. That’s not clear in the article. Updated.
Cant wait till SFIV-CE is hopefully Ported to the Vita 😀 . It is in the Candidate List, so one I am hoping for, along with others.
1. Download Python installer and install
2. Open the command prompt
3. Type “python -m pip install –upgrade pip” and hit enter
Result:
File “”, line 1
python -m pip install -upgrade pip
^^^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
so… uh.. what do i do?
Anyone else having trouble making this go widescreen? Any ideas ?
