New PS5 Firmware update release…again. 6.02 is out, don’t update.
PlayStation have pushed a new PS5 firmware update earlier today, version 6.02. The previous one, 6.00.01, was only a week ago, and we mentioned that it was odd (not only for the very minor increment in version number, but also the fact that the associated manifest file didn’t even bother treating it as an update).
Even though the update is a minor one, and the official changelog only says it “improves system performance” (wink, wink, we fixed some vulnerabilities), mainstream site pushquare state that this change actually brings user-facing updates, such as a change in how Activity Cards are presented to the user. I’ll take their word (and the screenshot below) for it.

With 6.00.01, hacker Plutoo had come out of the wood after a significant Twitter hiatus, to explain that update fixed some specific bug (vulnerability?). In this case, it is unclear if the update is doing anything that could impact the scene’s work. It feels odd that two updates are released in rapid-fire fashion so shortly after a PS5 Kernel exploit was made public, but given that the exploit in question was actually disclosed to Sony about a year ago, that point is basically a coincidence.
PS5 6.02 – Should I update?
As always, if your goal is to jailbreak your console, you should simply not update. The recent history of PlayStation hacking tells us so: people who keep their console up to date do not get the Jailbreaks.
This is demonstrated with the recent PS5 4.03/4.50/4.51 Kernel hack. People who bought a console early 2022 (or before that) and kept it at a lower firmware now have hopes to see significant technical breakthroughs on their model.
In an ideal world, you would have 2 consoles: one that you keep on a low firmware for a Jailbreak (or buy a low firmware one if you can find one), and one that you keep up to date in order to play your current gen games and access PlayStation online services. I know it’s easier said than done, but that’s how things are.
Who even cares to jailbreak if no one drops crypto keys? What fun is *** homebrew and piracy? I want to play with Sony’s libraries without asking my console to decrypt them for me.
LOL, feel free to share those keys if you have them, then. Entitled much?
Stop being a little b**** and commenting useless stuff. Why are you on this website? Jailbreak isn’t just about pirating games.
@Dontel Private keys cannot be calculated and per console keys are per console. We still didn’t defeat SAMU, and imagine that FOF is even tighter.
luckly I dont have ps5 I will buy when games will be working but cheap
Unfortunately you cant use PlayStation Store or even access your account if you don’t update for a while
