List of PS2 Emulated Games that got a physical release on PS4 discs
There’s a growing interest for PS2 games on PS4 recently, and in particular people have been wondering which PS2 emulated classics have been getting an actual physical release on PS4 discs.
We’ve been digging and here’s what we found.
There are very few PS2 classics that actually got a release on PS4 (54 of them, according to Wikipedia). Out of those 54, only a handful got a physical release, and the vast majority of those have been done by company Limited Run, which specializes in bringing “digital only” games to physical format. There’s one issue with Limited Run releases, which is that, as their name implies, they do a very limited print (only a few thousands) of each game they release.
This means finding physical PS4 discs of PS2 classics (that is, running with an embedded PS2 emulator) is not necessarily difficult, but can get fairly expensive. On the other hand, as far as we can tell, physical copies by Limited Run are guaranteed to be PS2 emulated versions.
A few other PS2 classics have been released outside of the “Limited Run” prints, such as Quantic Dream’s Fahrenheit, and are generally less expensive if you can find them. In the listings we’ve found on Amazon or eBay, prices have ranged from about $30 to $200 depending on the version available.
We won’t discuss why PS2 classics physical discs have become popular overnight, but understand that none of the games below offer any interest at the time being* other than being PS2 games running within a PS2 emulator, on a physical PS4 disc. If that’s what you’re looking for, for any particular reason, make sure to double check you’re not buying a PS4 remaster, which sometimes exist (e.g. for Destroy all humans has both a Limited run release – the PS2 version – and apparently a PS4 native remaster released later by THQ). We feel the list below is pretty solid, but as always please double check, and let us know if you find issues.

* Seriously. The only game known to be exploitable for sure at the moment is OKAGE:Shadow King. That particular game did not receive a physical release.

$100 For An Empty Box. WOW!
Honestly as glitchy as OKAGE was I am not surprised it was the game to use the exploit. Anyway great post as always wololo!
Is there a way we can be certain if we have a Limited Run copy of the game? Is there a marking of any kind in the box or disc indicating we have the correct disc?
Depends on the game. I think the “exceptions” could be Destroy all Humans and Psychonauts which might have had multiple releases? In some cases, the game wasn’t a Limited Run release at all such as Fahrenheit. But generally speaking, if you have a “Limited Run” edition you probably already know it given how these releases happen. What game in particular are you thinking of?
I like King of Fighters games. There are plenty of used video game stores in my area. It won’t hurt to take a peek. If they don’t have it no big deal like you said nothing to see here but if they do I will have an awesome fighting game and whatever comes next. Thanks to Cturt! I can’t wait until part two! But no rush! I’m grateful for part one! Thanks for responding to my question @Wololo!
These games run normally on the PS5 right? The emulator is on the disk?
xsx>ps4>ps3
>Psychonauts (beware of newer versions which are not PS2 classics)
I assume this is warning against buying the sequels and not the upcoming reprint, as it sounds like the new physical copies of this being included with 2’s limited edition are still just the emulated PS2 version.
Yes, this is correct!
