PS4: NoBD Updater (beta) from 6.72/7.50/7.55 to 9.00
Developer LightningMods is looking for beta testers for a PS4 NoBD updater, for those of you stuck on a lower firmware and who can’t update. People who have tested the tool so far have confirmed it works.
What is a PS4 NoBD?
Your PS4 is said to be “NoBD” if its BluRay drive is missing or has been damaged. If you have such a “NoBD” console, you probably already know (or will soon discover) that you cannot update your PS4 Firmware anymore. This is annoying for multiple reasons, if only for the fact that there is no legit technical reason for this limitation on the PS4 firmware. You could still technically use the PS4 for a lot of other things, including digital game downloads, but the PlayStation gods have decided otherwise.
It’s up to the community to fix this mess, and make it technically possible to update your firmware to the latest and greatest, by bypassing a few checks during installation of the firmware. These techniques are typically referred to as “NoBD updaters”.
PS4 NoBD Updater 6.72/7.50/7.55 to 9.00
There are specific requirements to run such an updater, starting of course with the fact that you need to run a Jailbroken PS4. This is possible on 6.72, 7.50, and 7.55, and by following LightningMod’s instructions, you will be updating to firmware 9.00, also a Jailbreakable firmware. 9.00 is arguably better than 6.xx 7.xx, for compatibility but also stability of the hack.
The folks who have tried LightningMod’s files so far have reported success, for example here are pictures courtesy of user PTM (theboss) on the test discord channel, who confirmed update from 6.72 to 9.00 worked as expected:

The developer states this tool is “free during this testing period”, implying there are maybe plans to offer the service for a fee moving forward. For those interested to do it right now, head over to their Discord server and kindly ask for LightningMod’s files.
