PS4 scene veteran Zecoxao is taunting that “something” is coming soon to the PS4. Knowing the track record of the scene member, there’s lots of reasons to be excited.

Is a PS4 exploit coming soon?

Reading between the lines, we can assume that the “something” will be coming this year, and it could even be in a few weeks or a few days. As to “what” this something could be, I’m personally betting it’s hack-related (rather than, say, a homebrew tool), possibly jailbreak related.

Zecoxao did add this was exploit related, but your guess is as good as mine at how much we can trust the memes.

Could this be a PS4 9.00 Jailbreak?

We’ve had a handful of reasons to be excited recently on the PS4 scene, first with CTurt snatching a $10’000 bug bounty from PlayStation (probably indicative of a PS4 kernel exploit), then more recently with Sleirsgoevy turning a Webkit vulnerability into a full fledged usermode exploit on PS4 firmware 9.00 (which was then confirmed to also work out of the box on PS5).

Unfortunately, Cturt’s exploit has been kept under wraps on the HackerOne bounty website. The bug report has been closed for more than a month now, and hope to see it disclosed publicly is fading rapidly. And the Webkit exploit is, well, just a Webkit exploit. Alone and without a kernel exploit, it’s not particularly useful to end users.

But the stars might align, and possibly the 9.00 webkit exploit could be coupled with a 9.00 Kernel exploit, leading to a full Jailbreak on PS4’s latest firmware. This would be huge for the scene, as a full Jailbreak on the latest and greatest firmware has become a very rare occurrence in console hacks.

Alternatively, maybe something completely different has been brewing under the hood, and we might see an exploit for firmwares 8.xx coming out of the blue.
