A PS5 DevKit was apparently for sale on eBay, got pulled within hours

PS5 Devkit up for sale on eBay
What appears to be a legit PS5 DevKit was put up for sale on eBay yesterday, only for the ecommerce platform to pull it within hours.
Twitter users @Zuby_Tech and @iDCx1337 were able to share screenshots of the eBay auction, for a DFI-D1000AA dev kit and a DFI-T1000AA test kit, along with two black dualsense controllers. At the time of the screenshots, the auction was going for €2850 (about $3400), with twelve bids.

PS5 DevKit is the familiar “V” shape
The Test Kit design looks close to a retail PS5 unit, while the DevKit has a V-Shaped pattern we’ve seen before. It is definitely not the first time that pictures of the PS5 devkit appear online, but probably the first time that someone attempts to sell one on such a public place as eBay.

The person who attempted to sell this is most likely not the person who had a contract with Sony. It’s possible a studio got closed down, or acquired, and that the unit got “lost” or given away in the transition process.
Do Console DevKits “help” the scene?
Mainstream media are trying to guess why the auction got pulled, with some wondering if some trade secrets could be found on the device. The reality is probably simpler. Modern console devkits are not usable “out of the box” and require a time limited license in order to work. This is not like older generations where devkits could be used almost “as is”. One could develop and run one’s own code.
But PS5 devkits are the property of Sony. Studios who get these devkits actually acquire a license to use it, but the hardware itself is “loaned”. Therefore Sony have the right to take legal action against anyone trying to sell one.

It’s clear that there is a market for collectors for this kind of hardware, so I’m not surprised to see someone attempt to sell one. But it’s a bit surprising to see something like that happen so early in the console’s life cycle. I’d assume Sony/eBay are more lenient with DevKit sales once the console is from an older generation. Tt’s reasonably easy to find PSP and PS3 devkits – at a price – nowadays.

What an idiot…… enough said
oh this squat toilet ***
That thing looks so much better than the regular PS5. They should have released the PS5 like that, it would have been awesome. It looks sturdy and really powerful.
