PS4: Specterdev, tihmstar sharing (slow but steady) progress on 7.55 kernel exploit implementation
Update from wololo: in a previous version of this post, we mentioned this as being an exploit for PS4 7.02. This was a typo. We meant, of course, firmware 7.55
A few weeks ago, a kernel exploit for PS4 7.55 was disclosed by TheFlow through Sony’s bug bounty. The disclosure did not include a proof on concept, and since then, a handful of hackers have been attempting to implement the exploit (with the goal to eventually turn it into a PS4 Jailbreak).
Among them, SpecterDev has been the one sharing his progress the most openly, as he has been streaming his attempts live on twitch for the past few weeks.
You can find their latest Twitch session here. SpecterDev and fellow hacker Tihmstar have been making progress, slowly but surely. Unfortunately they haven’t managed to get the exploit to work in a stable way, yet. This week, the stream ended with the hackers looking at other approaches that could be taken to trigger the exploit.
In the meantime, Sleirsgoevy, who’s also been working on the exploit, hasn’t shared any specific progress in the past few weeks.
The scene stays tuned for an upcoming PS4 Jailbreak 🙂
