3DS News: Nintendo releases Firmware 11.14.0 patching BrowserHax & Luma3DS updated with support for this version!
Despite the Nintendo 3DS nearing its 10th birthday and being fully discontinued last September, Nintendo decided to surprise us all and push an update for the console with version number 11.14.0. In this article, we’re going to look at what this update does together with a Luma3DS update intended to add support for it!
Nintendo releases Firmware 11.14.0 for the Nintendo 3DS

Despite nearing its 10th birthday, the 3DS still managed to get yet another update which broke Luma3DS & BrowserHax in one fell swoop!
Earlier this week, Nintendo went ahead and released Firmware 11.14.0 for the Nintendo 3DS, coming just under a year after the release of Firmware 11.13.0 in December 2019. Following the trend established with Firmware 9.7.0, released in April 2015, this just-released update doesn’t seem to bring much in terms of functionality with Nintendo only providing a partly sentence-long change log stating: “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”.
That being said, it has been confirmed that Firmware 11.14.0 patches the 2020 BrowserHax exploit which was used as a quick & easy way to hack Firmware 11.13.0. As a result, this leaves those on Firmware 11.14.0 with only one method of software hacking namely Seedminer. Furthermore, if you intend to use BrowserHax on older supported firmwares, you might face the update nag when opening the browser which may complicate the hacking process.
Luma3DS 10.2.1 released with Firmware 11.14.0 support & more
As usual, when a new firmware update is released, some community members rush to update their console to check whether their preferred CFW is still working and this time is no different. However, this time around, the result was that Luma3DS no longer worked on Firmware 11.14.0 despite most recent 3DS updates not breaking compatibility. Thankfully, this hiccup was swiftly fixed with TuxSH releasing Luma3DS 10.2.1 hours after Firmware 11.14.0’s release with it including support for this new firmware & some other stuff namely:
- Download Play functionality now works even when you’re out-of-region
- An issue in which the Rosalina Menu wouldn’t pop up during application launch has been fixed
Conclusion

I updated a few days ago and thought i bricked it. I updated luma via the luna update app a few days before.
As it gave an error on boot i thought it was bricked until i found luma saying a new update was out to give support. Now its working again, no brick just needed that newer version of luma.
Scared the *** out of me for about an hour till i found the fix.
I even lost safe mode, that was also bricked. Only had luma menu then error after that.
there is one rule: if it works, don`t touch it. don`t forget about it anymore.
Why did it scare you? They are a dime a dozen.
I ran into the same problem. How did you update Luma without being able to turn on the 3ds? I can’t figure it out and I’d appreciate if you could tell me.
Hey, morons, THATS how you do a first post. None of that first ***.
Also, I’m really dumb. First!!!!
We know.
Let’s not forget that you can still hack your 3ds with a supported flash cart and NtrBoot
I literally had just installed Luma with BrowserHax the day before this update came out.
Aurora you are a goddess! Thank you!
This is the first year I’ve dealt with a hacked 2ds. The last update worked fine with Luma, but this one bricked my DS and I kinda freaked out. Had a bit of difficulty finding out whether there was a patch, and luckily I came across your article. I was able to update Luma and got my 2ds working again within 15 minutes of thinking I’d bricked it
