PS4 News: Al Azif does significant work in porting Mira to FW 7.00-7.02
If you’ve been following the PS4 scene lately, then you know that FW 6.72 is the highest hackable firmware but FW 7.02 has a kernel exploit that needs a Webkit exploit to work. As a result, it’s only a matter of time before FW 7.02 is hacked so Al Azif is doing some important prep-work on Mira so that it’s working ASAP once a Webkit exploit is available.
PlayStation 4: Al Azif does prep work for porting Mira to FW 7.00-7.02
Al Azif has done strides in porting Mira to FW 7.00-7.02 but a Webkit exploit is still required to actually hack these firmwares! (Tweet)
As explained in the introduction, FW 7.02 has a kernel exploit available for it which was shared by TheFlow back in July but a Webkit exploit is required to act as an entry point. This means that FW 7.02 will be hacked sometime in the not-so-far future although nobody knows when but Al Azif has decided to start updating things early. According to a tweet shared earlier today, she has effectively done the most time-consuming part of porting Project Mira (a homebrew enabler & more) to FW 7.00/7.02.
From the links shared within the aforementioned tweet, it seems that her work on Mira has to do with finding proper memory offsets for FW 7.00-7.02 which will greatly expedite the porting process to these firmwares once a suitable Webkit exploit becomes publicly available. As mentioned above, there is no telling when it’ll happen but a code execution Webkit vulnerability was recently published by the Cisco Talos Intelligence Group which may be of use as it was only fixed in Safari, a Webkit-based browser, last week!
Conclusion
As Al Azif herself noted, her work on porting Mira to FW 7.00-7.02 does not mean that a Webkit exploit is going to magically become available. Quite obviously, if you’re on FW 6.72 or below, you should stay there for the time being since this work will only quicken the Mira porting process once a Webkit exploit is released or some other form of entry point is found!
For now, the best thing that can be done is to wait patiently and keep an eye out for any new developments.
