Switch News: MatinatorX, the person behind DragonMMC & DragonInjector, working on DragonDSI – A solution to add a Micro-HDMI port to the Switch Lite!
After being hit with a C&D due to DragonInjector (gamecart-sized payload injector), MatinatorX still hasn’t given up on creating hardware for the Switch. However, he’s now shifted some of his effort to the Switch Lite with the upcoming DragonDSI which makes it closer to a fully fledged Switch!
What is DragonDSI?
On Friday, MatinatorX posted a pretty significant status update bringing about the bad news that he was hit with a Cease and Desist letter in regards to DragonInjector, a gamecart-sized payload injector which saw instant commercial success. However, he also had some good news to share in the form of updates to DragonMMC and the fact that he’s embarking on a new project called DragonDSI. As the introduction already explains, DragonDSI is a hardware solution that aims to add a Micro-HDMI port to the Nintendo Switch Lite that would, presumably, allow for output to a TV and capturing the console’s screen in an easier way. For those a bit out of the loop, the Switch Lite does not allow one to connect it to the Switch dock and stream its screen to a TV due to missing hardware which is why DragonDSI is needed in the first place!
How does DragonDSI work? What are its capabilities?
It is important to state that right now, not an awful lot is known about DragonDSI as the only information available is from MatinatorX’s initial announcement. That being said, the basics are currently known and in point form, these include:
- The output will be in the form of a 720p (1280×720) video signal together with stereo audio
- DragonDSI will work by diverting the internal LCD’s signal & audio from the headphone jack whenever one connects a micro-HDMI cable
- Currently, MatinatorX is unsure whether DragonDSI will be mass produced or not but is keeping options open while creating a low-cost solution
- In more technical terms, DragonDSI is a “Lontium LT8912 MIPI DSI to HDMI convertor” chip
Conclusion
As of right now, MatinatorX has given no form of ETA or information about pricing/installation as DragonDSI is still in preliminary stages. As a result, the usual advice of “wait and see” applies here and if you wish to get status updates, it’s advised to join the DraconicMods Discord channel of which MatinatorX is the creator.
