All Half-Life games now free until Alyx launch
Valve has recently announced that they will be making all previous Half-Life games (specifically Half-Life 1, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and Half-Life 2: Episode 2) free to play until the launch of their new VR game, Half-Life: Alyx. They say “The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones.” The games will not stay in your Steam Library forever, however. As mentioned, they will only be playable until the launch of Half-Life: Alyx (March 2020) unless purchased. This is still a very good amount of time to play through all the games in preparation for Alyx.
Just in case you don’t know, Half-Life: Alyx is a new Half-Life game by Valve that will be set before the events of Half-Life 2. It will be a Virtual Reality only game. However, if you buy Valves new VR Headset (the Valve Index), you will receive Half-Life: Alyx for free.
If you have Steam installed on your system, you can download the free games directly from the news post. Just click on the names of each game you would like, and they will download automatically in your Steam Client. You can also search directly in the Steam Store and install from there if it does not work. Other than that, there’s not much else to say except to enjoy your new games!

Lovely. One problem – nobody has VR headsets, so there is no idea who Valve expects to play this thing.
But what they don’t tell you is that Half-Life: Source and Half-Life 2 is DRM-free, so you should still be able to play them after it’s removed from your Steam library if you copy it to another location. And it’s fully legal.
They added denuvo just 4 that
Oh, I didn’t know that. That sucks.
