OpenTTD ported to the PSVita – Play the popular open-source transport management game on the go
As some of you might know, the PSVita is becoming the go-to console if you’re a fan of open-source games. It has ports of games like GNU Robbo, OpenTyrian, some fan-made Zelda games and a wealth of PSP open-source titles like SuperTux which scale pretty well. Now, OpenTTD has been added to the collection thanks to ‘angguss’ on GitHub.
What’s OpenTTD?
OpenTTD is an open-source business simulation game in which you act as an entrepreneur that manages a transport company that has to do with air, water, railroad and road transport. The game is based off and takes many elements from the popular 1995 game called Transport Tycoon Deluxe, now you probably understand the abbreviation if you hadn’t heard of OpenTTD before 😉 . The PSVita port seems to be based on version 1.7.1 (latest version as of yet) and has the following features:
- Touchscreen can be used for mouse input, the d-pad for panning the camera, circle for right clicking and the shoulder buttons for zooming.
- Multithreading, autosaving and LZO are supported in this port.
- For performance reasons (remember, this game can get pretty choatic) it runs @ 480×272 (the PSP’s resolution) but it can be made to run at a higher resolution if you don’t mind a performance hit.
Sadly, sound and network support are not yet implemented but hopefully, they’ll be implemented soon enough!
How do I get it?
To get it, you can either install the VPK which you can get from the link below or download it via VHBB. That being said, you still need to copy the data files yourself or else you’ll just get a blank screen when opening the game.
You can get the data files by installing the game onto a PC and then copying over the files needed to ux0:/data/openttd. The developer plans to make a content downloader that works via the internet in the future so you wouldn’t have to install it on another device to get the data files.
If you have any issues, report them to ‘angguss’ on GitHub.

Someone ported it to Vita. Super cool.
1st
or not to be
Sometimes it pays off to be lazy. I was gonna sell my vita a couple of years ago when I was short on money. Put it in a box but it never went off. Had a switch once, but it was brief. It was too big and had too many parts, plus the battery sux. Wasn’t happy with it. So I gave it away. Yes I’m in good standings now. Today I’m a proud owner of a phat vita with the best screen and the best fw. Really a good year for the vita with all the homebrew pouring in. Kudos to all the vita programmers and hackers and keep up the good work.
Nice. I hope someone could port CorsixTH (Theme Hospital) for Vita too.
I was just about to write the same comment Jamx.
All we can do is hope I guess…
Is it possible to port rollercoaster tycoon?
Can you create a .cmabackupfile of it ?
has anyone got this working? I’m not clear which files need to be copied from the PC and to where on the Vita..?!
I don’t know what files to place where, can somebody help us out?
