Labyrinth 3D v1.3 released (Major update) – PSVita
An update to another homebrew by veteran developer “Rinnegatamante”, who’s the same person who brought us RinCheat and various other homebrew. Update 1.3 brings about some much-needed features such as being able to save and load amongst various other improvements.
What’s Labyrinth 3D?
This homebrew game was originally developed to be a showcase for the RayCast3D Engine on the Vita but now it’s become more like a proper game. In this game, you have to find the exit of a labyrinth (as the title suggests) and you can also mark walls you’ve already been past using scrolls. The game has no definite end as it uses an algorithm t
o generate labyrinths so you can keep on playing for a very.. very.. long time! Controls are also pretty straightforward; d-pad/analogues for movements, X for marking walls and START to pause the game. You may use [] (SQUARE) to delete a savegame in the save/load screen. The game looks kinda like a DOS-dungeon explorer game.
What’s changed/got updated?
This update brings about various welcome changes that improve the game experience such as:
- Ability to save and load games (thus making it more of a game)
- Bug fixes (especially with GPU crashes)
- Some shading effects added
- 1024×1024 textures took place 64×64 textures for walls in order to provide a better look
- Menus were reworked
- You may now skip engine logos at startup by pressing START
These changes make update 1.3 quite a major one since now, the game feels like a more proper homebrew than just a tech demo. You may get the homebrew off the developer’s website which is linked at the bottom of this page. Have fun escaping labyrinths in old DOS-dungeon game fashion! 🙂
