Project Void – GekiHEN contest – First 3D homebrew game for the PSVita
All Vita fans rejoice! This might be the start of the 3D homebrew age for the PSVita. This means a lot for the community as 3D homebrew will thrust Vita homebrew out of the PSP age. Developer ‘Akabane87’ has started the 3D homebrew era with Project Void it seems.
What’s Project Void?
First of all, this is a WIP (pre-alpha really) application so don’t expect it to be perfect! Right now, it’s more of a sandbox game in which you can drive a basic spaceship and well.. shoot and navigate through asteroids. It currently has some debug options you can mess about with as well until a newer release is out. The developer has developed the game with Sony’s official SDK which is quite unheard of in the homebrew world. The music is by Stephane Badey.
Cool! Where can I get it?
It’s pretty easy to install of course, just install the VPK from the GekiHEN project website. There are various controls in the game and these are detailed here:
Controls:
– Left Stick : 3D strafe right/left/up/down
– Right Stick : ship’s orientation
– Left Trigger : acceleration
– Right Trigger : shoot
– Cross : toggle pause+freemove cam/unpause+ship cam
– Triangle : toggle friction/no friction (ie space inertia)
– D-Pad : navigate through the debug menu
– Start : show/hide debug console
– Select : reset the scene
– Front Touchscreen : move any physic object of the scene (drag&drop)
Note: The GekiHEN contest has been extended until 19th March so expect more awesome stuff till then!
Hopefully we’ll see much more homebrew that uses the GPU for more awesome homebrew that fully uses the potential of the PSVita. And an N64 emulator.. maybe Dreamcast; just wait!

Good work! Thanks too all the vita homebrewers, cant wait to see what happens in the future
so it was made with Unity?
since the official Sony SDK for the vita was some bootstrapped unity if im not mistaken.
This is not unity… this is the original sdk that inspired the vitasdk.
oooooo
my vita hangs up when i try to install the vpk
