I am Setsuna PS Vita English patch by Ignis00
I am Setsuna is a game that arrived with a fair amount of hype, but critics didn’t seem to be enamoured with. It didn’t do terribly, but didn’t seem to live up to the hype. It actually looks like a game that would probably shine more on a portable system like the Vita. Long before the game was out however, it was already mired in controversy – absolutely unneeded one.
Even though the game also got released on the PS Vita in Japan, when it came to the West, it only saw PS4 and PC releases. PS Vita users, albeit a small bunch, are a rowdy one and were not going to take it lying down: endless forum posts, reddit threads and even various petitions popped up. Square-Enix’ reaction was to say they would consider it if there was enough demand, but everyone knew that was just PR talk.
Thankfully for us HENkaku users, there is always a way out: the fanslation. This is where developer Ignis00 comes in! He has been hard at work for quite a few months on translating the game himself. He could have tried to hack in the translation from the PC version, but instead of doing so he actually went at it alone and from scratch. Quite the commendable effort. Ignis00 had worked in the past on projects like PSP games Phantom Kingdom Portable and Yuusha 30 Second. Thanks to his hard work, we can now enjoy I am Setsuna on our PS Vita consoles, even without the backing of Square-Enix.
What is I am Setsuna?
I am Setsuna is a turn-based RPG developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and published by Square-Enix. It is a supposed to be a throwback to old-school SNES-era RPGs and during the build-up to release was compared to Chrono Trigger. The game never saw a Western release on the PS Vita but, thanks to developer Ignis00 and HENkaku, we can anyway.
Instructions
1. Make a backup of your “PCSG00756” game directory.
2. Place your “PCSG00756” folder in the same directory as this file.
*Don’t put spaces on your directory/folder names or else the files won’t be patched.
3. Open IAS.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. The folder is now patched and is renamed to “PCSG00756_” to avoid any accidental re-patching, install it either through wrapping-it up in .VPK format or through the maiDump Tool. Don’t forget to rename the folder to “PCSG00756” if you’ll install it through maiDump Tool.
5. Make yourself comfortable.
6. Enjoy a tale of snow and sacrifice!
Known Issues
- During battle when you select a Tech, you’ll notice that the description has been cut off.
- Text might run-off the screen at some instances.
- Tutorial descriptions will leave a single letter at the end for every line, this issue is might be due to how the game natively handles Japanese-characters as we’re only “pushing” Latin-characters hence the latter problem.
- Save data title is truncated due to string-length limitations. And by that I mean, Assembly-level limitations.

Download I am Setsuna English Patch
To download the I am Setsuna patch just head on over to the release thread over at GBATemp. As usual, if you encounter any issues or just want to thank the developer for his hard work, do it there. Out of respect for the developer’s hard work I will not directly link to the patch, so I ask for your understanding and ask you to get it from the release thread.
Enjoy the release!

Fist!!!!
The program runs for lke .2 of a second and then shuts off. fml
It’s most likely dos-mode. Run it through command line.
I had alot of issues trying to get patch to work. What finally worked for me was putting a folder in C/ so it looks like this Computer > C:\ > Setsuna Folder > PCSG00756 & the Patch archive contents. It also took cutting off any Virus Protection & running the IAS.exe file as a admin. This worked on windows 7 PC & windows 10 Laptop but would not work in any other drive like my extra SSD and USB portable HDDs. Hope this might help you or someone else.
Didn’t do terribly? Square Enix lost 244 million yen because of it: http://www.siliconera.com/2016/08/02/square-enixs-setsuna-studio-tokyo-rpg-factory-sees-244-million-yen-loss/
Look, you can say you liked it just fine and that’s okay, but that’s still a little over 2 million USD that the publisher lost from releasing this game. 2 million isn’t that much to a big company like Square Enix, but it’s enough to make sure that they won’t give it a sequel. I just hope they don’t take this as a sign that no one wants another game like Chrono Trigger ever again. A true CT sequel would be great, but IAS is neither a CT sequel nor great.
I do appreciate this release, though. I’m just glad someone is giving the Vita some love still!
No, the department/company lost that much money in Japan. Who knows how much of that was Setsuna,s fault.
Disappointing game, nonetheless.
Ah I see. My bad.
Yeah, it was a disappointing game imo. I was really hoping for it to be like Chrono Trigger, but it seems that the gaming industry still doesn’t get what made Chrono Trigger one of the greats.
It got a sequel: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Sphear
Based on my understanding, IAS vita version suffers from an enormous amount of technical problems and is vastly inferior to the ps4 version. Most notably in load time.
Had a tear in my eye reading gnis00 story. A real saviour.
gonna pirate this game happily, seeing as SCREW ENIX just pushes out more mediocre smartphone *** that nobody needs, just so those greedy *** can rake in the money.
so just *** off SCREW ENIX you dont give a *** about YOUR FANS anyway.
Does anybody know if there is a patch or something to make trophies show in english? That would be really awesome.
It is a pretty meh game. It is way too cliché and predictable + on top of that they present you with choices that are meaningless besides getting some different flavor text. This games isn’t great but it isn’t bad either.
