TWLoader updated to 1.4.2, support for more flashcards
Update: Since this article was originally written, Robz8 has updated TWLoader to 1.4.2. The article has been updated accordingly.
Well that was a quick one, wasn’t it? It’s been less than 24 hours since I reported on the release of TWLoader 1.4 and Robz8 has already updated it to 1.4.1. This release adds supports for more (most?) DS flashcards on the market. It also fixes a bug with the displaying of box art within the launcher. It is good to see that developers keep working hard to keep and fulfil their promises.
If you want supported added for specific flashcards, I’d suggest dropping a line to the developer on the release thread. Maybe further versions will support those and asking doesn’t hurt anyone. Just remember to be respectful about it.
What is TWLoader
TWLoader is a CTR-mode frontend for the nds-bootstrap library that features a DSi-like menu. It allows you to load nds files straight from your SD card. It does currently have the limitation of only loading files smaller than 4MB, though it is still a great way of being able to play DS homebrew. TWLoader also allows running DS software at a higher clock rate of 133mhz. From version 1.4 onwards, you are able to load files from your flashcard, including ones bigger than the 4MB limit. A list of homebrew compatible with nds-bootstrap is available here.
Changelog for TWLoader 1.4.2
1.4.1:
- Added flashcard ROM loading support for DSTT/R4i Gold/R4i-SDHC/R4 SDHC Dual-Core/R4 SDHC Upgrade/SC DSONE
- Fixed bug where the 3rd box art is always a “?”
1.4.2:
- Improved box art loading. Limit is no longer 10 images, and crashes no longer occur when there are little to no box art images.
- The boxart folder now has a folder for flashcards inside.
- An NTR/TWL-mode option to have rainbow colors glowing in the Notification LED is added. (credit to MarcusD).
- Some box art are no longer shown as “?”.
- TWLNAND side: When running Slot-1 card/flashcard, ARM9 CPU values are fixed, so the NTR value is no longer the TWL value, and vice versa.
- The following flashcards are now supported: Acekard 2(i)/M3DS Real/R4i-SDHC 1.4.x and Ace 3DS+/Gateway Blue Card/R4iLS/R4iTT
Robz8 adds that you should update both TWLoader.cia and TWLapp.cia
Instructions
To get TWLoader working click here to read the instructions from our original release article.
Loading .nds files from Flashcard
1. Create a ROM path .ini file at “sdmc:/nds/flashcard/”.
2. Put this in:[FLASHCARD-ROM] NDS_PATH = Games/Game name.nds3. Change “Games/Game name.nds” to wherever your ROM is at, for example, your ROM is at “Games/Super Mario 64 DS.nds”, put that in.
Download TWLoader
To download TWLoader you can do one of two things: you can either head to the release thread over at GBATemp and get the download links from there; or you can head to Robz8‘s GitHub release page and download it from there. If you’d rather get the link from us, here it is. If you want to report on anything to the developer, just head over to the release thread.

Enjoy the release Jack Attack :)~~
Also first!
Oh, I intend to 😉
Do we really need a whole new article everytime a minor update gets rolled???
I thought about updating the earlier article, but I have a policy that if 24h have passed since the last release, a new article is written. For example, when TheFloW fudged the release of Adrenaline, I made 3 different amendments to the original article since it was within a few hours. When he released a patch the next day, Wololo decided to write an update about himself.
I can understand if you don’t agree, but it’s part of how we work. We apologize if it makes you mad, but ask for your respect 🙂
The article about 1.4 TWLoader was the latest article in the front page, updating it would have been the logic choice to me…
I didn’t know you have a 24 hour rule about updating articles so I guess that explains it, at first glance it looks like you were just spamming this site.
Keep up the good work, I do apreciate it 🙂
some of us might miss the fact that an article has been updated, so i favor a new one per update, OR a better idea might be to include a tag of some sort which indicates if and when an article was updated and also rotates the newest/most-recently-updated (whichever is newer) to the front of the article list
I’d appreciate a new article each time. It’s not like the site is flooded with headlines. I don’t think releases happen fast enough to cause an issue there.
Hoping for M3 support here!
Sith!!!!!
Awesome release! Been waiting for something like this for a while, sucks that we have to add a line of text for each game on the flash cart but hey, minor amount of work for some awesome advantages!
Thank you guys!
I am a little confused with using the Flashcart part. Does this mean we can only have one game on the Flashcart at any given time or can we have multiple and choose what game we want to play just like old times?
