VPKEditor 1.1, give your homebrew LiveArea the makeover you want
Not all of the useful homebrew releases come in the form of native files that you can run on your console. Sometimes they come in the form of tools you can use on your computer to help you with the stuff you do on your console – QCMA being one of the prime examples in this category.
This time however, I am here to tell you guys of a new tool called VPKEditor by developer qberty. This tool has a simple purpose: to let you edit the look of the LiveArea background and icon of any vpk file you want! The best part of this tool is that not only can it edit that part of any homebrew (you can finally add your own graphics to Moonlight Vita or RetroArch easily) and this tool is also cross-platform, supporting Windows, Mac and Linux! Oh, and it can also edit the vpk files dumped with MaiTool!
What is VPKEditor?
VPKEditor is a tool for your computer that allows you to change the icons and background for both your homebrew and games dumped using MaiDumpTool. It was created by developer qberty and supports all OSes making it usable for pretty much everyone. If you aren’t happy about the look of some of your games or homebrew, this will allow you to do something about it!
Features
- Opens any VPK file designed for the PS Vita
- Lets you change the icon, the livearea icon, and the livearea background image
- Automatically converts the images (from JPEG or PNG) to the correct bit-depth (8 bit) supported by the PS Vita
- Mai Dump ZIP support
If there’s enough interest, I’ll continue to work on adding more features to it (like editing the template.xml with your own text).
Download
To get your hands on VPKEditor, all you have to do is go to the developer’s website here and click on the download link for your OS. If you just want to get straight to the download you can just click the following links for the Windows, Mac and Linux (x64) downloads. If you want to give the developer feedback or show interest in the continued development of this application just click here to go to the release thread on our forums and speak your mind to the developer there.
Enjoy the release!

I’m getting the same thing. Can’t seem to figure out what’s up with it.
For those that are getting weird windows sizing. Your resolution is weird so it doesn’t like square windows. Every used a square windowed app? It’s weird.
Version 1.2 will fix this by just making the window size stay rectangular. Rectangular is better for widescreen monitors anyway 😛
thanks
I’ve wanted a tool for this for months! A shame I can’t open most of my VPKs or ZIPs because it gives a “this file is broken” error 🙁
Interesting. What VPKs exactly? It only states the file is broken if it can’t fine an eboot.bin. Mind if you email me so I can try and fix it?
No support for anything built with lpp vita? D: Maybe in the future?
Well, Batman Blackgate didn’t work for me, along with others, mostly Mai dumps. Can’t say why though 🙁 … they’re all packed the same way, a folder with the ID name inside the Zip. And sure, whatever you need that makes this work 🙂
