ScummVM for Vita updated to 0.4, 100% speed increase in some games
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from developer cpajuste but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been working on updates to his homebrew releases. If you remember, he has brought us the PS Vita ports of both ScummVM and vOpenTyrian. However we haven’t heard anything from him since his GekiHEN contest entry, silence that was broken today with his release of a new update for his ScummVM Vita port. This can be considered one of those major revision updates, considering that according to him, it brings increases in speed of over 100% in some games, but since he hasn’t been numbering his releases, we will call this version 0.4.
What is ScummVM
Scumm (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) used to be the original engine on which many of classic point’n’click PC games originally ran, which would get tweaked with passing years to better serve the purposes of the developers using it. ScummVM is a Windows/Android/iOS/Toaster application that allows you to relive the glory days when everything got a point’n’click adventure game. Maniac Mansion (durr), Day of the Tentacle, Discworld and the original Monkey Island trilogy all ran on Scumm in one way or another. If you like classic games that will challenge you to think outside of the box, then most of those games are definitely what you should be looking at. Some of them even look quite good for their age!
Changelog for ScummVM Vita 0.4
- improved speed: more than 100% faster on some games (for example broken sword 1 intro now play full speed)
- enabled scalers and hq scalers (no need to enable 2x scalers on “HD” games like broken swords, will just slow down)
- ability to use “integer scaling” (disable fullscreen)
- corrected aspect ratio of some games
- updates sources to latest git revision (2016-10-11)

Glad to see Scumm actively worked on. +1 for using I have no mouth and I must scream. One of the best games ever made.
I take it this utilises the touchscreen of the vita as a mouse click?
is there the touch support?
+1
number one killer feature that makes this Yay or Nay
