LuaIRC 1.0 (GekiHEN Contest Entry)
Rejoice for we already have entries for GekiHEN and it’s been less than 24h since the contest was announced! The cherry on this contest was popped by developer Rinnegatamante who coded a functional and fully-featured IRC client for our PS Vitas in LUA. I was actually wondering when Rinnegatamante was going to be done with this, since I had an interaction with him on Twitter about it and from his tweets it looked like it was already in pretty advanced stages of development. Some people had been clamoring for ways to chat on their Vitas and now they already have a choice when it comes to that.
What is LuaIRC?
LuaIRC is a LUA implementation of IRC (Internet Relay Chat) which was and still is a somewhat popular way of communicating online. It uses the on-screen PS Vita keyboard as a way to type the messages and according to Rinnegatamante it should do anything that a normal IRC client does, except it’s on your Vita. I questioned the developer about BT keyboard support, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen and since the on-screen keyboard for the Vita is better than many I’ve seen, it means this will be more than great to use.
Features of LuaIRC?
– Multichannels support: You can join multiple channels and switch towards chats easily.
– New messages detection: When a new message is detected on an inactive chat, the channel name will change color in the channel list.
– PART, QUIT, JOIN, PRIVMSG, PING, NAMES commands detection.
– Auto-detection of PSN Nickname for default nickname usage.
– (Optional) History logs save.
– Possibility to see the whole list of connected users.
Download LuaIRC
To get your hands on the release build of LuaIRC, you should direct your attention to its page entry on the GekiHEN website, where you will find the download and further instructions for customization along with the how to use controls for LuaIRC. If you find bugs or have suggestions for developer Rinnegatamante and want to give him feedback, you can easily find him on Twitter for that. However knowing him, considering this is a stable and fully-featured release, he might already be working on his next big project.
Let’s hope GekiHEN continues at this pace, this is a great start! Enjoy the release everyone!

FIRST!
kill yourself.
Owow, I’m trolled.
Thought was PSP emulation at first from the Picture lolz , anywho, this is still an awesome app thanks!
Amazing, i love irc.
It’s so nice to see the Vita getting properly hacked!
Live long and prosper!
I’ve been having this emulators and tools for years. Without disrespect if we want IRC we’d just use a pc or a tablet. What would be great would be to have a real indie game with 3d graphics and good sound built by a team of homebrew devs. That would be awesome but I know how hard it woukd be as I tried to code my own game back in the day and the best I could come with was a java coded clone of pacman :(… Good luck to you guys out there… Oh and FIRST
efnet 4 lyfe reprezent
Great initiative, but perhaps porting Weechat would be better in the long run?
A from-scratch homebrew attempt is nice and all, but a porting effort seems better in the long run especially if we get background support.
Can you download from XDCC bots? Would be pretty cool, but it’s not in the feature list – so doubt it.
What happend to keeping tabs on ps4 its firmware 4.00
Just have to say Typhoon_Neon that some of the wording in your articles especially this one about the contests’ cherry being popped is extremely offensive. I don’t see the need for you to have wording like that in an article about a PS Vita Homebrew Contest. Not professional at all dude.
No offense, but if you are offended by a harmless joke then you may have bigger problems to worry about than my professionalism (guess what, I’m not a journalist, just a blogger.)
I will, however, take your feedback to heart and do better next time because I’m here to have fun and ensure everyone else does too and “offending” people doesn’t go in that category. People may not know it but I do read a lot of the comments and always take that stuff into consideration for the next time. So there, consider you feedback registered sir.
(for some reason my original response did not show up as a reply to you… weird)
I agree that articles these days, and the internet in general, could really do with less sexual references. It’s not that it makes me really upset, it’s just annoying.
@Rinnegatamante: I love your little IRC client mate, its great! But could I make 1 suggestion?
Have the text colour alternate for every 2nd line so its easier to see which message is coming from what person. Like Have line #1 Light Grey (as an example), then line #2 White, then line #3 light Grey. Will make it heaps easier to read!
