Another day, another release/update. This time developer cpajuste updated his ScummVM emulator for the Vita and since he hasn’t been giving his updates a number, we’re going to assume they are 0.x until it becomes fully functional where it’ll get the 1.0 moniker. This update fixes at least 3 games and cpajuste is asking people to test out games that weren’t working or had issues and report it in the GBATemp thread. As usual it’s up to us gamers to give him feedback he can use to make the next releases better, hopefully you guys here can help lend him a hand. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a Twitter handle that we know of so the reports will have to be made in the original thread he created.

For those not in the know, Scumm (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) used to be the original engine on which many of classic point’n’click PC games originally ran, which would get tweaked with passing years to better serve the purposes of the developers using it. ScummVM is a Windows/Android/iOS/Toaster application that allows you to relive the glory days when everything got a point’n’click adventure game. Maniac Mansion (durr), Day of the Tentacle, Discworld and the original Monkey Island trilogy all ran on Scumm in one way or another. If you like classic games that will challenge you to think outside of the box, then most of those games are definitely what you should be looking at. Some of them even look quite good for their age!

I booted Discworld expecting Monkey Island 1/2 and I was surprised to find it looked like this. Many games at this time were going for terrible FMV gameplay.

With all this said, this is what cpajuste said about the games he knows he fixed and the changelog:

– fixed libmad (mp3 playback, should fix some games)
– added flac support (libFLAC, should fix some games)
– prevent sleep mode

At least it fixed 3 games i could test which was causing some problems:
– Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (CD DOS VGA) (flac)
– Full Throttle (DOS, French) (flac?)
– Day Of The Tentacle (CD, mp3)

If you guys can try some non-working games to see.. In any case i’ll try to take a look soon to your non-working games for sure. By the way, if a non-working game is a freeware, please send me the link to test.
