3DS: How to install FBI (For CIA Files)

In case you don’t have or can’t afford a gateway or sky3ds this can be an easy way to install Games (mainly). CIA files are basically unsigned code that you can run, so you run anything without any ‘checks’. You must already have a CFW installed for this to work, you can’t run unsigned code on OFW. Once you do that, come back here.
- Go here and download FBI.zip
- Extract the contents and copy the FBI Folder to the 3ds folder on your SD Card.
- There should be a file called fbi.cia inside the Extracted content, copy this file to the root of your SD Card OR you can create a specific folder for .cia files inside the root and copy it there.
- Put your SD Card back into your 3ds and go into your homebrew launcher. Open FBI and navigate to the location of the .cia you just copied and install it.
- You should now have an FBI app in your home menu so you don’t have to use homebrew launcher every time you wanna install something new
- ???

For installing CIA files or games, just copy xyz.cia file to your SD card (again in root or a new folder you created in root).
NOTE:Installing large .cia files takes time, don’t worry if it says that the estimated time for installing is 20-30 minutes. It’s completely normal

So I take it that the grave was dug through a existing grave? I heard that happens in medieval graveyards. Seen it once myself but it was only a few teeth and bone chips.

go to reddit.com/r/3dshacks and I’m sure someone can help you. I just modded mine so I’m not much help but at least there’s a great resource out there.
“you can’t run unsigned code on OFW” Sorry but i have to disagree here.. you CAN run unsigned code on even 11.x but there are limitations on what you can do with it, stating that you can’t run unsigned code on ofw will sometimes confuse people.

If anyone wants to downgrade version 11, there is a convoluted way of doing it, it requires a specific Dsi game, a already hacked console, and an exploit game that works on 11.. but it is possible.
Yeah but this is only a temporary solution, once a new update comes out there will be no way to downgrade a 11.x console so those thinking about doing it should do it asap, i was kinda hoping to downgrade my sun and moon limited edition 3ds but i don’t think i’ll be able to.
You might get super lucky, the sun or moon console you buy might be on 10.7~
If you wanna be safe I’d go get a pokemon Red or blue console.
Nah it’s very unlikely considering i saw a post on reddit that someone already bought a 3ds that was on 11.x brand new so i reckon i’ll be out of luck but hey i can’t complain since i already have a hacked console running a9lh and i’m not gonna cancel my preorder just so i can have another hackable console.

Doesn’t this just install FBI to your official firmware? Or is there a way now to install stuff in emunand without it running? As far as I remember you have to install FBI (or Big Blue Menu, which is by far better) before you create emunand so that when you create emunand the .cia installer is injected into emunand.

Fbi, you just install a gba game converted to cia format. You should also switch to Luma3ds and update.

Hey guys, I did the correct procedure, but upon entering my homebrew and clicking on the FBI file appears a black screen written unsupported firmware version, can anyone help me?

try running udspliot (it comes with the homebrew starter pack i believe) and then run fbi.
same with me too, now I can’t play super mario 3d land1.5
Out of curiosity. Where does the cia file get ‘installed’ when doing this via FBI?
The game.cia is on SD card, so installing it will do what exactly? Extract the CIA to the SD card so it can run?
My old 3ds is on version 5.0 (haven’t used it in ages) if I install a cfw for that version and then this fbi, will I still be able to play games for versions higher than 5.0?

Having to unscrew the back of my New 3DS XL every time to add CIA files seems quite cumbersome.
Isn’t it possible to run them from an external SD card in an R4i 3DS card?
It would only be a matter of changing the install path in FBI.
