PS Vita Ethernet adapter Test Dev Tool spotted in the wild
Long time scene member @NeoTechni surfaced a link to a PS Vita Ethernet adapter Test Dev tool available for sale on eBay.
I had never seen such a device, but a bit of googling shows me these have been around for quite some time now, although they’re not necessarily easy to find: it wouldn’t be surprising that Sony try to shut down auctions on developer-reserved hardware that’s explicitly marked as “not for sale”.
PS Vita Ethernet adapter Test Dev Tool for sale on eBay
I have no price comparison to say if the current asking price of $59.99 is “fair” for such a device. All I can say as that they don’t seem so easy to find, after a bit of googling.
A youtube review from a couple months ago confirms that the device is useless on a retail PS Vita:
You’d probably need the Vita to run in devkit mode (non retail) for the right drivers to be loaded. Even that might not be enough, if an additional app is maybe required. OF course the handful of readers here with access to devkit units (that are still active?) might want to give that device a try, if only to reverse engineer the hardware…
Oh well, probably useless for the scene, but it’s always cool to find some of these floating around.
Thanks @NeoTechni

that review was fabulous! lmao
it’s a POE ethernet adapter, it need the POE to get energized
as i said it need the POE, that how the vita ethernet adapter works and also charges the vita at same time
Sigh 🙁
i wish some one will make it usefull
what a honest review. well I wonder who got a complete set of dev kits now aside from authorized developers.
i dont undrestand what this tools are doing ?
Well, it’s a development tool. Most likely it’s used by developers to get a consistent, high speed network connection while developing online functionality in their games. Wi-Fi can sometimes be a bit unreliable, and it would be very hard for developers to debug their network services if the Wi-Fi occasionally cut out during testing.
That’s just my guess anyway, I’m sure it has other uses, too.
The Vita even got an appropriate error message for idiots like that guy in the video: “This Device is not supported”
I demand a teardown of this adapter and detailed pinout-schematics.
I demand that you buy it yourself and deliver a tear down tutorial to the community. Win win for both parties.
I second that notionXD
The guy in the video is a ***, or a *** *** as he would say!!!!
OOO Yesss!!!Please continue hack PS Vita!
Okay…will there be a hack to allow us to use this eventually? If not, why bother posting this? This is more of something that should be covered by GameSpot, a general gaming site, not wololo, which is a hacking site.
If you haven’t noticed, wololo.net is a “bit of everything” site. From game discounts, hacks, tutorials, general, news and more. I think it is a great thing for this site to publish this stuff as it helps the site grow to a wider audience, so why limit it to a “hacking site” only? Just because maybe you think this article is pointless, doesn’t mean it couldn’t end up being useful information to someone else. Like the “Is Pokemon GO putting your Google account at risk?” article found here: http://goo.gl/uiubWC which I believe persoanlly, deserved to be mentioned to the community (it isn’t “hacking” related either) as it was a genuine security risk to Pokemon Go players if you read the article.
So get off your high horse.
No, I won’t “get off my high horse”. The Pokemon Go article is relevant for most people, so at least that had an excuse. But this? This seems more like something you would hear about in a MetalJesusRocks video.
I wonder if someone owns a Vita HDMI/Video Out cable or similar tool out there for sell. It just sucks Sony never release that kind of thing for Vita, but instead made a completely new Vita system; VitaTV, while Vita itself can do it with just an additional accessories.
i dont think so. Debug Units have HDMI out itself so no adapter is needed
If you replace the settings app for DEX.
you can goto Settings > Network settings > Add Access Point Manually > USB Ethernet
the result looks like this:
