How To: Play Monster Hunter Frontier G on your Vita
Note from Wololo: This tutorial on How To: Play Monster Hunter Frontier G on your Vita was initially published by /Talk member cultopi, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Cultopi won the June tutorial contest for the PS Vita (a $10 Amazon gift code) with this entry. You can find the original post here.
Disclaimer: Monster Hunter Frontier G currently only allows players from within Japan play the game while the Hong Kong/Taiwan servers let you play from many parts of the world (At least I tested playing from US without VPN). Those who complain about CAPCOM not having this game localized in North America can use this tutorial to play the game free of charge (WARNING: The game will be in Chinese, MH series have almost zero story content anyway).
1. A Hong Kong PSN Account. Use this link to create an a/c (everything will be in English):
https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-hk/home/games
Either use google map to lookup an address, or use any of these examples: xxx Victoria Rd, xxx Elizabeth Rd, xxx Sha Tin Rd, xxx Mong Kok Rd (xxx is 3-digit number).
2. A Vita to access your newly created HK PSN account. I did not test transferring from PS3 to a low-firmware Vita. Just restore your vita to factory settings and use this HK PSN account at the initial setup.
3. Download the game free of charge in PSN (it will be on top where the banner scrolls horizontally). It will be approx 3 GB of data to download, and additional 1.5 GB for the update patch.

4. When finish downloading and updating, start the game, it will ask you to link your COG account to your PSN account. If you don’t have one, you can create before you start. It only requires an email and a few other misc info. When navigating through the game, O is forward and X is go back .
1st row = username, 2nd = email, 3rd = password, 4th = confirm password

5. Enjoy !! 🙂

They say the lack of a real Monster Hunter game is what caused the death of the Vita. But the vita is selling pretty strongly in Japan. I wonder if it can be revived in the west.
Sadly, I doubt it, it has a terrible image in Europe, the image of a failed device… You hardly find any new PS Vita anywhere, but plenty of used ones… And you can easily find some at less than 100€. (Price new : 160€, Price at launch, 250€). Convert 1€ = 1$ (with VAT included)
i’d say lack enthusiasm from the devs, especially the location-based-gaming part, see how shi-tty pokemon go become big, vita had similar chance with near but stupid devs got idea how use it to draw customers in.
Someone’s salty that a free app game for phones is more succesful than the Vita in one week.
I’m salty about that, too. All game breaking bugs aside, the game itself doesn’t seem very good. Even the metacritic review is one of the lowest Pokemon games — which is kind of to be expected.
But, I think it’s funny in an ironic sort of way that all these misfortunes are befalling those travelling onto dangerous areas looking for Pokemon.
How sincere will Nintendo’s Quality of Life mission statement be when children inevitably get gang raped and killed for a chance at Lucario?
we all know Nintendo is just a hypocrites, their fan-boys online 24/7 doing damage-control, disgusting
Lol nope. The western market is too focuses on TV consoles and the stupidly popular categories of games.
The reason it sells so well in Japan is because of visual novels and such. The west is only interested in FPS and Sports and they aren’t games that you play for 10 min or so on the train.
The vita will never match the 3DS because the US Devs have abandoned it 🙁
Nice One! I didn’t know it was possible, so thanks a lot !
This tutorial lacks the information that using any region account other than your own requires the person to not only reset the device to factory defaults but format the memory card too when switching accounts.
haven’t turned my vita on for a while, think i also lost my charger.
I try to download it, but it freezes at 33mb. It’s because I’m in Italy?
give it time it will download the whole game
No way! Monster Hunter Frontier G is free? Are there IAPs or subscriptions, or is it actually a free game?
If it’s like the PS3 version, it won’t load trophies unless you buy sub.
or….. you can get a 3ds and play mh generations without the hassle and with servers full of people.
Keep in mind this method was possible quite some time ago when there was only stuff like monster hunter 3/4 on the 3ds. So it was definitely worth it back then to get this game. Even now it’s still worth playing monster hunter frontier g because it’s much more difficult than the American versions and offers a lot more game content.
I guess this means there’s no VPN’s for Vita?
Also, does this mean MONSTER HUNTER FRONTIER G is F2P?
do i need the chinese version for that or does this work with the japanese version aswell???
Yes the steps to play the game are correct now im playing it but all texts are in chinese so its very hard to play thank you any way.
It’s wonderful that you are getting thoughts from this piece of writing as well as
from our discussion made at this place.
hmmm is it the same way with the ps3 version?
So its stilk working right? And the max hr for free is to hr 100 right? Thanks in advance
