New PS3 Homebrew Wiki on Reddit
/Talk user Derf (a.k.a. Derf_Jagged on reddit) dropped me a PM a couple days ago to introduce the PS3 Homebrew Wiki on Reddit.
This is an impressive collection of useful information that was mostly compiled by him, and could prove to be very useful. The Wiki covers popular backup managers such as Multiman, PC Tools to interact with your PS3, utilities, downgraders, emulators, etc…
If you own a PS3, you’ll want to check that wiki.

Note from /u/Derf_Jagged:
I speak for many of us when I say that it’s hard to find updated information online for the PS3 scene. After popular modding scene websites have died, there are dead links and outdated tutorials everywhere you look. This wiki serves as a source of up-to-date and accurate information for end-users. Over the last four months, I’ve gathered information on every useful application and process I could think of, personally validated each process myself (or had other people validate for the ProgSkeet, Teensy, and ODE pages), and reworded everything into a single easily-understood and spell-checked format. Keep in mind, 99% of this was compiled by a single person, so there may be minor errors; please let me know if you find any! The entire wiki has also been saved on archive.org, so in the event that reddit goes down, it will still be accessible.
Thanks to Derf
Feel free to post thoughts, questions, and concerns here as well 🙂
Thanks for your contribution Derf. I would love to see the ps3 scene thriving again.
Truly great work!
Thanks for your contribution to the scene!
What a lovely job done…real clean presentation Derf 🙂
The ps3 homebrew I used was awesome. It’s good to have a repository.
But, every ps3 I’ve ever owned has died so I can’t really test 😛
Really nice(!) work Derf, thanks a lot. PS3 was never the easiest to get into (also because of the tooling). It’s good that you documented the stuff, even if it’s a bit late in the stage of the console. Inevitable it will be useful. I may peek at it in more detail myself, if I find the time … 🙁
up-to-date and accurate is something i still disagree with about this info.. . A good collection of info, but fails short on its claims (as i have already told derf) as i do not think everything is as accurate or up-to-date as it could be or provides the user with the best set of information. but good info, just wish it gave user’s more information on certain things with those claims i see being pushed around.
A suggestion on RetroArch Emulators:
There is some missing information (possibly cores as well depending on which version your covering)
v1.0.0.2 is the last Stable version. (however not the last official version).
v1.2.2 Beta9 (or maybe beta 9?) – An unofficial compile/release from Ezio (Comes with a few new cores)
v1.3 – Was an official release but should of never been, as its very buggy to say the least. Many core do not even work.
Then this
—————————
Genesis Plus GX (Sega Genesis/Megadrive)
It emulates the following::
(Sega CD (MegaCD), Genesis (megadrive), Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000)
Nestopia (NES/Famicom)
— Nintendo NES (famicom)
— Nintendo Disk System (bios required)
Mednafen PCE Fast (PC Engine)
– PC Engine & CD
— Super Grafx
Also the official download site is usually xbins.org (for the PS3), the actual official page is libretro.com where all information and release announcements along with official forum.
But don’t take what i say as hate, this is a good collection of info. (just needs a small bit of work in a few areas)
With RetroArch, I’m only going off of the last official release, since 1.3 is supposedly supposed to be re-released after its fixed. As for NES, the Famicom IS the Nintendo Disk System. I’ve added the other changes (which I guess weren’t on the release page), and I added the libretro link for announcements.
Actually, the Famicom is not the Disk System.

As seen in that image the famicom would be on top of the Disk System in that picture.
Also one of the NES cores is missing (quickNES), I think only Nestopia has DiskSystem support but QuickNES might I am not sure i do not think FCEU-MM does at all..
Bios would be required on some cores or systems: ( a few off top of my head)
———————————————
Sega CD
PC Engine / TurboGrafX & CD
SuperGrafx
Neo-Geo Games
prBoom also emulates the Doom II engine as well.
Interesting, I always thought the Famicom was the disk system attachment, not the initial release name of the NES.
I realize I must have gotten the information from the Brewology page (http://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=152) which has bad information, even though it was written by TheMaister.
Also, Neo-Geo doesn’t require a BIOS (anymore?). I just tested a few games on my console with it and I don’t have any bios files under my system files in /SSNE10000/USRDIR/cores/system. I am running RetroArch 1.0.0.2.
I’ve made those changes and also added information on adding the bios files; as always, thanks for the input!
