How to redownload P.T. Silent Hills
Note from Wololo: This tutorial on How to Redownload P.T. Silent Hills was initially published by /Talk member Orangpelupa, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. OrangPelupa won the February/March mods award (a $10 PSN code) with this entry. You can find the original post here.
Note: The tutorial was initially published on our /talk forums in December 2015. The technique below has been confirmed to work at the time of re-publishing this in April 2016, and users have confirmed this still works, one year later, as of April 2017. It might stop working at some point. It also assumes you have access to a PSN account that had P.T. Silent Hills in your library at some point in the past, as you need your account to have a license for the game.
P.T. is a historical masterpiece from the minds of Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro, and Norman Reedus. It was swept away from PSN and no longer available for re-downloaded.
But you can re-download P.T. (Silent Hills) without hassle:
Quick guide
(recommended for those that know their ways with PC)
1. Download and install SUWI (check all options).
2. Set your PS4 to use your PC as proxy.
3. Download P.T. from Library 🙂

On Windows PC:
1. Download SUWI
2. Run Suwi R20110308.exe and check all options.
3. Download CheckIP
4. Open the zip file and run “Check IP.bat” to see your proxy IP address.
On PS4:
1. Go to NETWORK settings > Set up Internet Connection -> use LAN/WiFi > Custom > Automatic > Do not specify > Automatic > Automatic.
2. Now you are on PROXY screen, choose USE and type your proxy IP address with PORT 808.
3. Complete the network setting.
Download P.T. (Silent Hills) on PS4:
1. Go to DOWNLOAD notification.
2. If P.T. download error was there, press OPTIONS then DELETE (if its not there, you are OK).
3. Go to LIBRARY.
4. Choose P.T.
5. DOWNLOAD P.T.
The technical stuff
PlayStation 4 finds out where to download games by reading specific .JSON file. But because P.T. was wiped off PSN, PS4 don’t know where to download.
Googling around, turns out there’s a bunch of Redditors that has uploaded P.T. US version PKG but its missing the necessary .JSON file. Luckily there’s EU JSON file floating around and i modify it to work with P.T. US version.
My face made a big smile when I saw P.T. download progress bar slowly fills. But my smile quickly turned upside-down when the download stopped at 9MB. Thus i gave deeper look at the EU JSON and identified the following stuff:
Long story short, i modified the EU JSON with
- US PKG URL,
- US PKG SHA-1 hash,
- and blanking the identifier (just put “”).
Voila, it works. P.T. able to reach 100% download and it is playable. Turns out, PS4 only care with the PKG URL, file-size, and SHA-1 hash. PS4 does not care with the identifier value, thus you can simply blank it 😀
Full-disclosure:
- The proxy app was “Squid Proxy”. I made an installer and some necessary configs.
- This tutorial is my original work and i will post it on other places to spread the word, but the most comprehensive and detailed guide only available for Wololo community. Because i think you guys/girls will like the nitty gritty 😀

and if I try to download, i have 1% preparing and impossible download
I was having the same issue as you. i disconnected my pc for 10 secs reconnected and started all over, can confirm mine worked.

Any idea if it works if you never downloaded it but added it to your download queue from your account? Or is the license only activated when you download the game to the PS4?

Mike take your time, i was having connection issues (no idea why) when i set the proxy address. kept trying til it connected to psn and then bam i was able to re-download. damn game is still scary as heck
Can confirm it worked for me. Downloaded and started the game. I also never downloaded PT to my PS4 before, but I had added it to my account when Konami announced it was getting pulled from the store.
I still have P.T. on my PS4 but the license to play it was killed the moment I bought another year of PS+….. :C

Didn’t work. I deleted the game, made all the configs, installed the PC thing, put in the right IP in my PS4, even restarted.
There is no “P.T.” to be found in my library…..therefore can’t download it ;__;

Hey everyone, I just tried this and initially it did not work on the ps4 side (could not connect to internet) I disabled the firewall on my laptop and on my router and still the same deal. Ended up fixing it by first making sure Windows Firewall was disabled (laptop and router), uninstalling Squid (by deleting the C:\Squid folder), then reinstalling Squid (SUWI) and trying again Restarted my PS4 and repeated the steps and it worked 🙂 Hope this helps

Great tutorial. I lost all my game application data when I upgraded my HDD to a 2TB so I’m glad I have this back!

I heard there’s a chance of being banned on PSN for doing this. How concerned should I be?

Can confirm, worked on Windows 7 as of April 11. On a side note, the choice between WiFi or Lan depends on your network setup(i.e if you use WiFi, choose your WiFi SSID), you can’t just use either. Should be really obvious but I spent about 7 minutes wondering what went wrong.
I did everything and still cannot download P.T I tried wifi and Lan options, I lost P.T when i upgraded my ps4 to a 2tb and didn’t have a large enough usb flash drive or other hdd to back it up 🙁 my pc has windows 10 after i downloaded and checked off what needed to be i can’t find squid or the other thing unless i redownload em. sigh please help

I just thinking about this coz i’m gonna change my PS4 with 1200 series. Thanks for tut. Now i am thinking another possibilities like DLC from different region. For example i have US PSN and EU driveclub disc and i cant use free car dlcs. when i tried to buy some car packages content cannot be found because EU game code doesnt exist on US PSN. If licences matches i think i can use them. Also updating games took to much time. I can use download accelerators to DL content then transfer it with this method to PS4 is easy.

What if someone could hack a profile and input a game license and use this method to download the game and play it while being offline of the PSN? Is there a chance for that?

LOL. Or Portugal (PT) and this is one of the shittiest countries to live from Europe (minimum salary is ~500€ and prices of things are mostly as high as a europe country with 1500 or more € as minimum salary).

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thought it was gone for ever but you brought back to life. Hooray. For those who can’t get it to download, ensure your port is 808 – default is 8080.
For those with macs using parallels to do this:
Make sure to disable shared network mode in your VM settings and instead use your computers network interface (i.e. wifi or ethernet) to get a local IP for your PS4 to connect to.

Thanks for the guide i downloaded P.T. But some how would up deleting it before i had a chance to play it guess i will give it a this time around.
I noticed the is no uninstaller included with Suwi so is there in steps other then just deleting squid folder in need to do to get rid of the proxy not that i am done with it?

Would someone please upload the us region package to any other site that is not dropbox because my extremely limited DL speed is so slow that I cannot download the PKG from dropbox because they timeout my DL before it can finish.
Just thought I would point out while this does work anyone that has a *** speed when downloading using the proxy simply let it download a little bit (say 100mb or so) then change your internet settings back to what they were originally to use the full speed.
It still works when doing it that way as it knows where to look for the download that is how I got mine done in less than 20 mins.
