How To: Increase the battery life of your Dualshock 4 controller
Note from Wololo: This tutorial on how to increase your Dualshock 4 battery life was initially published by /Talk member genxmur, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Genxmur won the February/March tutorial contest for the PS4 (a $10 PSN code) with this entry. You can find the original post here.
Not sure if this has been written on wololo before, but here are some methods to prolong the usage of your controller. Now there have been many guides about this (LOTS of guides) but I figured there should be one present here as well, for the record. There are tons of methods but I’m just going to list the most efficient ones here.
1.Lower the controller volume
Not to be confused with TV volume or any other volume.Hold the the round PS button until the menu changes,Now you’ll a couple of menu options, and lower the SPEAKER volume, you could also lower the headphones volume if you wish, but lowering the speaker volume is enough.
2.Set the controller to turn off automatically:
You won’t believe how many times it happens that you have to do something somewhere for a while and forget to turn off the controller, in which case your battery will be pretty much dead by the time you get back. To prevent this you can set a time limit after which the controller will turn off automatically, you can do this by going into Settings>Power Saving Settings>Turn Off DUALSHOCK 4 Automatically and select whatever time you want.

3.Turn off Vibration:
You can do this by going into Settings>Devices>Controllers>Enable Vibration(Uncheck this if checked)
4.Reduce the Brightness of lightbar:
Again, go to Settings>Devices>Controllers>Brightness of DUALSHOCK 4 Light Bar. ‘Medium’ is usually ok but feel free to set it to ‘Dim’.
That’s it folks, that’s my short tut. Nothing special but worth trying to win with this. (Though that really isn’t why I wrote it, my idea of passing time)
Just a note, this tutorial is aimed at those who game for consecutive hours… or those of you with battery life problems and don’t have means to replace the battery 🙂

another thing you can do is completely remove the LEDs from your controller. did that myself a while ago and it’s helped my battery life immeasurably. the only negative is that you can’t always tell if the controller is on or not, so it’s a great idea to keep it plugged in.
No hope if I don’t have a PS4? :3
Maybe you can plugin to the console with a 5 meters cable and never get the empty battery… Why do you want a 60 dollars pad if you dont use all the things that can do??
Here’s a better tip:
1. Buy a 2000mah usb battery stick from Ebay for $10
2.. duct tape the battery to your controller
3. plug in the battery with USB to your controller
4. Enjoy triple the battery life.
Which changes the mode the controller runs in and tries to control the battery, instead of the ps4
needless to say the battery would ignore the dinput AND ds4 calls coming from the controller
close but no cigar
This is pretty old but it doesn’t. I plug it in to my laptop and it still works fine.
not all are original or something, I buy one by ebay and it came out worse than the original, more false than a lobster
Tear open the controller and rip the LED’s out.
Buy the 12$ 2000 mah battery from aidafruit, and swap the red / black wires (they’re opposite from ps4 controller) and place it in the controller removing the black battery cradle. It’s a perfect fit and lasts for about 16 hours on one charge.
Tutorial for this please?
another solution – using any powerbank
Solar charger might work
