XMBPD (XMB Package Downloader for PS3) gets updated to v0.2
We talked about XMB Package Downloader a while ago, this is a very cool tool that basically lets you download homebrews straight from your PS3’s XMB (provided you’re running a Custom Firmware, obviously).
The developer behind XMBPD, DeViL303, has updated it to version 0.2, and brings the following features to XMBPD:
- Ability to download over 70 packages from the XMB just by selecting them, with no USB stick required.
- Packages divided up into 4 categories (plus an upcoming themes category that Im working on)
- Package list will update automatically or can be refreshed manually using the new function.
- Removes the annoying Spotify and Singstar links from main XMB (packages still available to download through XMBPD)
- This application installs to flash so it is still there after a system format/restore, handy for getting your favourite apps back without needing a PC/USB Stick.
- Installing this will also fix some missing icons from CFW tools on ingame XMB.
- XMBPD can be updated from within itself via the Tools/Mods/Misc section.
- Addon available called “CFW Applications” which adds a new folder to your XMB for applications you want to keep separate from your games.
- Selection of applications available in the Tools/Mods/Misc sections that will install straight into the CFW applications folder.(or you can move your own apps easily by changing the category to CB in the PARAM.SFO and resizing icon slightly)
- New icon set for all the categories, All the icons are added to the relevant RCO files for fastest response and smallest filesize while keeping quality.
- This is compatible with Multiman singstar unlike early releases.
I just love how well integrated this looks in the XMB and am hoping for more homebrew support in the time to come. I also love the attention to details in the choice of icons, such as that tiny space invaders icon for the “Emulators and Games” section. Very cool!

DeViL303 adds a few notes/caveats:
- A PSN account is still required for this application to work, you don’t need to be signed into PSN, you just to have an account on your PS3.
- This installer was only made for Rebug 4.78, It will not install on lower FW.
- After the initial install please reboot and allow up to 2 minutes for the categories to fill up as it syncs.

Where…. Where was the download for our PS4 CFW this year?? It’s April 2nd now and we didn’t get our happy happy compressed “.txt” file!!! Or… Is the reason because THERE IS ONE NOW!?
Ha, good call, I didn’t prepare for an April fool’s joke this year so I just skipped it :/
What? no April fools this year? :\
too busy changing diapers, Wololo? 😀
installed it on my ps3, soon after running XMBPD my ps3 came into recovery and never quit .
no other option besides the recovery , he missed the CFW and returned to OFW 3.70.
Now I need to downgrade again to 3.55 to have a CFW again right?
I would highly advice against installing this. There have been cases where something would go wrong with the installation, putting your PS3 in a eternal cycle of recovery mode. When trying to get out of it multiple times, the PS3 crashes, and downgrades to OFW 3.70, meaning your console is no longer on CFW.
This can not possibly make your PS3 crash and downgrade to 3.70 OFW! This is a 11MB XMB mod for Rebug.
There is one case of someone who ignored all the warnings in the installer screens that this was only for Rebug only, the package even says “Rebug 4.78 Only” in the title. So he tried to install this on Ferrox and caused a soft brick, and then he must have had a disc in the drive so he ended up on 3.70 OFW when he tried to reinstall FW.
THIS SHOULD ONLY BE INSTALLED ON REBUG 4.78 .. It seems the author forgot to mention that important detail..
AT worse this will cause a soft brick which is EASILY recoverable by simply reinstalling the firmware your on. , However when you have a PS3 game disc in your drive.. This is how you ended up with with OFW 3.70 most likely . As the release it self does not contain any update files whatsoever. It would have to come from your disc game or mounted game.
This is why we put warnings out for PS3 users.: (see bottom of post)
http://www.psx-place.com/forum/ps3-jailbreaks-cfw/4-78-custom-firmware-cfw-updated-homebrew-apps-8887.html
Also the installer itself (when installing) says to only install on REBUG 4.78 )..
Also with 4.78 REBUG CFW they have Revocery Menu Patch to avoid such accidental updates. Other CFWs do not have this.
PATCHED – Recovery: Prevent accidental OFW update while on Recovery mode
I was incorrect the author did include the note about 4.78, “This installer was only made for Rebug 4.78, It will not install on lower FW.” (see i did not read haha) .. but opening makes it kind of confusing
“PS3’s XMB (provided you’re running a Custom Firmware, obviously).”
Maybe it should say Provided that you are running 4.78 REBUG CFW”
Hello
