You can preorder Playstation VR this Tuesday, but…
Playstation have announced that the Playstation VR will be available for preorder this Tuesday, at 7am PST, in the US. (At the time of this writing, this is basically tomorrow morning. Set your alarm clock!)
There are a few “catches” with this preorder batch, though.
First of all, only a “bundle” including the PS VR itself, a game, 2 move controllers, and a PS4 camera, will be available for preorder. Sony have announced that the VR Headset alone will not be available for preorder. It’s unclear if they mean “will not be part of this preorder batch”, or if they really mean the headset will never be available for preorder outside of a bundle.
This kinda sucks for Sony fans like myself. I already own the PS4 camera and have no interest in getting a second one. I’m sure some people already own PS Move controllers too and would be bothered “having” to buy them just so they can secure a Playstation VR headset on launch day. In other words, you’re going to pay $500 for the bundle, when what you really want is the $400 Headset. I can picture a bunch of people reselling the PS4 Camera or VR World game at a loss once they get the bundle. My strategy is going to be to preorder the bundle on Tuesday morning, and potentially cancel that preorder in the future if the Headset alone ever becomes available.
Secondly, some sources working for big retailers have told me they expect this first batch of preorders to sell out within minutes. People have told me they don’t expect big retailers like Amazon to have the product on stock for more than 2 minutes. You’re going to have to be trigger happy on Tuesday if you badly want the Playstation VR.
Nevertheless, if you want to give it a try, here is the Playstation VR page on Amazon. This is an affiliate link: if you get the bundle through my link, you don’t pay anything extra, but I get a small commission from the sale. Thanks!

The VR-headset will be sold alone as well, so stores can put up pre-orders for this as well. I dont think that there are any rules against that. Personally, i already pre-ordered the headset alone through a retailer the day after the price was announced. That was no problem.
No, if Sony is only giving bundles out no store can open them, rip them apart and sell the headset separately, that’s openly asking to get sued… Is lik a store would open collectors editions and selling the statue, soundtrack, etc separately…
Well hello there, VR aka PS Vita 2.
I hope this fails so miserably that it forces shuhei yoshida and andrew asshouse into committing suicide.
I don’t think it’ll fail hard. The deciding factor for me was that it could display all ps4 games and applications. That means it’s not just useful for VR, but as an alternate display. So you wouldn’t need the camera for that.
You know what else is an alternate display for the PS4? the Vita. I’m not saying it will be the next Vita but… there is a good chance with so much competition.
No, you don’t.
That reply was to the first guy, not to you Rolenzo.
I’ll probably just wait for a headset alone. I’m not quite sold on it just yet anyway. Just want to hold a pre-order for the time being though.
I want it….but I’m going to wait.
There’s simply no reason to get it on release when these things always get interesting 6 months or so after launch.
PSVR standalone available for pre-order next week wololo

I fear its going to be overhyped and too many people will be disappointed. But I could be entirely wrong to, so don’t take my words.
Only time will tell how this plays out.
i guess i am trigger happy. got a pre-order down thru the link here. now comes the waiting.
Got one as well!
I’m pretty comfy with my TV. I mean, 1080p looks nice from a few meters, but in my face? Ugh, no.
I have already pre ordered mine here in the UK through Amazon the other day.

Does not have a release date but it is just the VR unit that is being sold for a whopping £349.99 so yeah this should be interesting to see what happens 😀
It would be a bad strategy by Sony not to offer pre orders for the Headset itself, so I think there will be another batch of “PSVR only” preorders. In either case, in every European country the preorders were sold out in minutes, so you’ll have to prepare for the same thing in the US.
