DS Virtual Console on 3DS announced
A DS game “WarioWare: Touch!” has just been announced as a downloadable reward for Japanese users of “My Nintendo”. “My Nintendo” is the new rewarding system that replaced “Club Nintendo”. This DS release might let us inject DS games in the future.
There is a chance that this title might be a recompiled DSi Ware title from the original source code according to DS/3DS dev Normmatt. This was the case with previous release of Advance Wars for Club Nintendo. If it is so, unfortunately DS game injections won’t be possible. Still, it is always good to have some downloadable DS titles even if they are recompiled to DSi Ware. Can’t say no for some downloadable DS goodies.
UPDATE: I can now confirm it is a DSi Ware game as suspected. This means no easy DS game injecting. Let’s hope Nintendo releases a full DS title in the future or at least some more DS to DSi Ware converted games like this one.
Unfortunately i really doubt nintendo would just open the doors to DS injection especially with the current struggle they’re in trying to stop downgrades with the arm11 kernel hax and stuff. Though if this really is just a DS game it would be the best thing for me to be able to play all my games from the home menu without the need of my dstwo that may potentially need replacing in the future when it may not be in stock anymore.

No it won’t. There already is a DS game on the eShop (Advance Wars DS), but it’s a DSi port and not an actual DS games. On GBAtemp, Apache Thunder managed to inject DS homebrews and Download Play demos, but since DS games need to read from their cartridge, they would need to be patched to read from SD instead of the cartridge, which is very hard to do.
The writer already specifically mentioned Advance Wars, and said this could be an exception. Please actually read the entire article before commenting. The rest of what you said is interesting.
Not really he forgets that the fact they’re being recompiled into a different binary point being if they can spend time to port the game they have source code and went thru a lot more then just path dependencies. if you have a folder of source code from my own personal experience you can just use notepads plus plus to search and replace all instances of “ctr” to “sdmc” from a folder recursivly which takes a second plus I doubt they even care about the normal ds considering dstwo works on almost all firmwares I believe and with the kernal hacks around they are more likely focused on fixing and preventing future firmwares from being subceptable to dg not to mention ds games are like 1-5 use who needs to pirate them anyways only a few good ones here and there

Actually the game is Advance Wars Days of Ruin, not ‘DS’. ‘Dual Strike’ was the first DS Advance Wars Game, Days of Ruin was the second.
The precedent has already been set that these DS rereleases are only DSiWare ports and not wrappers around plain DS roms. That possibility would be brilliant for CFW users but I wouldn’t recommend getting excited because there isn’t justification for it.
Ok, but why would one want to use this to inject another title? I mean there are so many alternatives to play ds titles… by using a real ds with any kind of flash card… by using emulators on pc (no$gba or ideas…) or using drastic… so why going through this hassle
Well we can only hope 😀 I know DS flashcarts cost next to nothing anyway, but this would be much more convenient.
Exactly what i think too especially if we have our own DS mode CFW that gives us the same functions as a flashcard and more.
We really need a way to get DSi ROMs to work. It was only ever possible to play a DSi ROM on the iEvolution and that is impossible to find and limited to the permissions of the exploited game.

Right now, if you own a CFW New 3ds, you’re in heaven. The snes emulator is so good and there’s just so much available.

I’m more interested in seeing games that i can’t get physically on this console, like GBA games (Castlevanias, Golden Sun). Games that needed a battery to save, but thanks to digital version they are reborn.
