DDoS attack disrupted Valentine’s day on XBox Live
A DDoS group going by the name New World Hacking are apparently behind a DDoS attack that disrupted the Xbox Live services worldwide for a bit more than 3 hours yesterday, on Valentine’s day.
Sony’s PSN and Microsoft’s Xbox Live are some of DDoS attackers’ favorite targets, either because they’re easy targets, or not critical/governmental ones, or maybe because it’s pretty easy to *** us gamers off, and that generates some media attention.
On Valentine’s day, yesterday, people started reporting issues to the Xbox Live support, with difficulties to sign on to the network. The tweet below in particular outlines the emotional pressure that some gamers (and in this case, their girlfriends) can go through when your xbox doesn’t connect on Valentine day.
@XboxSupport you can’t even log on my boyfriend has been having issues since we came back from going out 30 MINS AGO ruining my vday bc hes😡

Sarcasm aside, it sucks when you can’t do anything with your console for several hours in a row.
Luckily, Xbox restored their services after about 3 hours of diruption
The earlier issues should now be resolved. We hope you’re able to enjoy the rest of your day with us! — Xbox Support (1-5) (@XboxSupport) February 15, 2016
Microsoft have apparently not confirmed (nor denied) that the issue was a DDoS attack, but group New World Hacking claim they were behind the attack.

New World Hacking stated in an interview with hackeread.com:
“We attacked XBOX as once again a test of our power. We plan on taking down a few major ISIS channels next month. And it just seemed like the perfect time to test.”
Were you impacted by the DDoS attack yesterday on Xbox Live? Or did your Valentine day involve no Xbox?

Afaik after reading the hacker’s response, this feels like a cheap way to cover up an attempt to ruin connectivity for people while under the pretense that it’s for the “greater good”.
lmao, I think so too. they don’t know that ddos attack is trying to remind us to get a life, haha
and to @bostonstrongg_ you should brake up with him and find a PS user. you have the worst bf. trust me.
No0o0o0o0, not not being able to use online Xbox games for an ENTIRE three hours! I can’t believe we all lived! It’s crazy.
Hack PS Vita Continue?
Not if you keep hacking XBox Live. >.>
I’m really getting sick of all this ***. On both ends. Oooh, look at you, you can organize a DDoS attack. Big whoop. And on the other end, can’t Sony and Microsoft do ANYTHING about this? I feel like they’re not even trying.
Well if this Nerd Whacking Owl bunch of jokers think doing basic DDoS script kiddie stuff makes them big men, they can think again. All they have done is make themselves look like little kids who enjoy annoying fellow gamers that use online console services. Lol “a test of our power”… a test of their lameness more like.
haha and bring more attention to these idiots.. Theyre going toattack isis lmao.. what a joke.. almost as much a joke as anon saying the same thing..
now when they can do some real damage instead of just taking something doen for a few hours then maybe ppl will respect their “power” lol
as stated its not rocket science to ddos someome including isis.. its a waist of time if you ask me including those giving them attention.. interview these idiots then turn them over and i bet the govt doesnt care either
This wouldn’t happen if your console would have as a main feature playing games regardlessof being connected to the Internet or not. I miss the ol’ days when the games were good and going online was an extra.
Plenty of games offering a decent single player experience, IMO. I bought a PS+ membership and the rest of my household uses the PS4 network features more than I do. I still personally view online stuff as an extra and won’t buy or play a game that doesn’t have decent single player modes. For me, if I fail to update the game or the console and play offline I don’t even notice the difference.
Times change grandpa…
Am i the only one who thinks it’s annoying that some noob group figures out how to use a DDOS and all of a sudden they’re “hackers”?
Well, if we didn’t need the servers for anything beyond gaming online it wouldn’t have been a problem. But this is Xbox.
Why hasn’t anyone addressed the angry boyfriend issue? Look, I can understand being a bit disgruntled when technology doesn’t always work like you want it to, but letting it ruin Valentine’s Day with your girlfriend? Bro, you need to grow up before you get into a relationship. She should break up with him and date a more grown up guy.
