On one side I’d love to hack the vita and play vita games for free. But on the other side, I’m afraid that if they do hack it, game companies will stop for ever publishing new games for the vita (due to losing money). It’s a very delicate situation. On the other hand, hacking the psp emulator doesn’t seem too threatnjng for developers because they do not build games like they used to for that system anymore

    • Zero says:

      Because they didn’t stopped already?

    • Jack Attack says:

There’s no delicate situation to be had. Piracy doesn’t hurt enough to be afraid of it. Period. There are tons of facts that prove piracy means little in the end. The only system that died due to piracy was the Famicom Disk System. Period.

The Dreamcast died due to the PS2, sales charts prove this. Piracy had no impact, whatsoever. If anything it got people interested in a system they wouldn’t be otherwise and lets not forget how few games could actually be easily pirated, and cheaply at home, without compromising portions of the game in the retail life of the dreamcast.

The PSP was never threatened by piracy. Again, sales prove this. Once sony stopped trying to do console ports and console-like games and brought over a couple great adaptations and helped port more japanese games and RPGS, the system flourished and actually gave Nintendo a run for their money. This at a time when Nintendo was at its peak popularity in the handhelds market. Nothing to sniff at there!!!

The PS3 lacked piracy for the better half of its life and it sold poorly, both hardware and software. In fact, for some reason, the PS3 had the worst software attachment rate until Sony got a clue and started turning things around. Consequently, that also happened close to the time that Piracy DID happen. And look at that, no hit in software sales.

The DS was the most pirated videogame hardware ever and overall sales didn’t tank. Individual titles under performed at the time but go figure because the market was over saturated. OVERALL GAME SALES never dipped.

I could go on, I mean seriously. Old games still sell digitally despite easy to access emulation and the piracy that ensues there and yet here we are.

Piracy is a boogeyman and only an idiot thinks it’s a real threat. Does it affect sales? Absolutely. Does a game get destroyed because of piracy? No. DRM kills more games than piracy ever has and piracy linked game deaths are almost ALWAYS games that were severely overpriced and had little market availability and the rest are ones that had abusive, intrusive DRM.

I used to pirate when I was a kid and couldn’t afford anything. Quite honestly, if I didn’t have access during those formidable years well I wouldn’t be gaming as a hobby today and spending thousands on it every year. Technically, I still “pirate” from time to time but it isn’t for stealing it’s for fair use or bypassing terrible DRM. Meaning, I already own the software I am “stealing” due to antiquated copyright and fair use laws.

It’s just stupid to be fearful of piracy. It’s a symptom, rarely a cause. Some smaller studios have definitely been hurt by piracy, absolutely. But they also coincide with the modern over saturated markets of today.

Just forget about ePSP work on the Vita hacks.
We can all either root & Jailbreak our phones for PSP emulators, which run just as well as the PSP does.

I thinks its time for more news on rejuvenate. For real. My Vita is Hungry.

  16. Toni says:

  18. Zeke says:

More exploits are good but I thought the point was to stagger them out so as Sony patches one another is released? Especially with the ePSP/TN-V bubble type stuff where there’s lots of different methods floating around including one for currently latest FW 3.55.

What I’d love to see now is all the Vita homebrew devs putting their weight behind Rejuvenate and the native hacks, personally. I’ve only had my FW 3.18 running Yifan Lu’s masterwork for a couple of weeks now but I’m stunned how good the emulators are. What we really need is a simpler exploit for it that doesn’t require computer/Android phone tethering to manually push across the ELFs, but failing that just more work on the native homebrews to give enthusiasts a reason to persevere with Rejuvenate in the first place. IMO.
