VitaShell 0.2 – Now with 100% more Bubbles!
It was just earlier this month that I had the pleasure of telling you guys about VitaShell 0.1, an homebrew that allows us to do many things from simple file browsing (from the Vita file system to the PSPemu’s one) and connecting that to FTP to more advanced stuff like a basic photo gallery. What I did not notice at the time of the original release however was that you have full write access to the PSPemu, to the point you can once again copy EBOOT.PBP files to PSP/GAME freely! This post, however, is about the newest version of VitaShell and a small tutorial on its best feature yet: bubble creation. But before we get to that, here is a small changelog by developer TheFloW himself:
Changelog 0.2:
– Added ability to sign PSP homebrews.
– Added sleep prevention when using FTP, deleting and copying files.
– Added a scrollbar.
– Added date and time to info bar.
– Added correct enter and cancel buttons assignment.
– Added some cosmetic changes.
– Fixed crash when deleting marked entries.
– Copied entries now still rest in clipboard after pasting them.
– The application now cleans itself before launching homebrews.
As you can see there are a few very nice improvements like sleep prevention when in FTP mode and the ability to sign PSP homebrews, which is the feature we need to create the bubbles. The process is rather simple and can be done in 5-10 minutes but has one huge drawback: many PSP homebrews will not work since the code for the signing in VitaShell is based on the Sony eboot format and those are created with a non-static elf. Unfortunately many PSP hombrews use a static elf which make them incompatible erroring with either a 0xFFFFFFFE error or a simple “This cannot be signed error”. I have had about a 50% rate of finding compatible homebrews, but all those that worked do so flawlessly and so does the bubble: homebrew like Wagic, Exult and others work while on the other hand, both me and TheFloW have been unable to find a compatible version of stuff like gPSP. The bubble creating process is extremly simple:
- Create a folder inside the PSPemu filesystem with your homebrew (I always use PSP/GAME);
- Press X to sign the homebrew: this will create a new file and rename the original to EBOOT_ORI.PBP;
- Go to any PSN PSP game you have on your Vita and copy the files EBOOT.PBP and __sce_ebootpbp to the folder of the homebrew you just created. I used the WizOrb mini as a base and it worked like a charm – that game is about 23MB.
- Reboot the Vita into recovery mode and rebuild database. When it comes back you will have the bubble(s) for each homebrew you did this on listed and working.
- To delete any bubble, just delete the folders in VitaShell and rebuild databases again.
As with last time, you can head to the /talk thread to discuss the release or head here if you want to help contribute to the list of compatible homebrew. Let’s keep hoping that the ReVITAlize competition brings us more applications and games that we can use, remember the competition only ends at the end of the month. You can still enter if you so desire!
Will try this soon

FAIL 😛
great news 🙂 was wondering if someone could make a thread with all working hombrew so far… this will be extremely useful and will save people time in the future if ever1 writes there experience.
will this method work also with making psp/ps1 bubbles
AWESOME! Would love to get the NJEmu Emulators (MVSPSP, CPS1/2PSP) on there like normal 😀
I thought that the Vita Scene was once again dead for some time, but it’s the kind of news that please me.
So, let me get this straight. This means you don’t have to sacrifice a game anymore, and can use it infinitely? Also, is it possible in a later release for a different signing method to be implemented? Questions aside, this is absolutely AWESOME. It feels like we really have some control over the PS Vita for one. I hope the flow doesn’t stop working on this and time soon.

nice that developers still show some love to the vita, but you still need a base psp game to do some stuff with vitashell, my vita is collecting dust since 3.51 without a way to install any psp game since I don’t have a ps3 and I don’t plan to buy anyone just to transfer games, I have a ps4, s at this point I plan to update to 3.55. but the exploit game and use ark or tnv, rejuvenate is cool but at this point I don’t think this hack will get updated soon, so many restrictions just to use few home-brew.

I recommend buying multiple vitas.
Vitas sell for 60 dollars apiece in pawn shops now, Vita tvs are dirt cheap too.
Is it possible to create a Masterboy Bubble?
awesome news !, just wondering is there any progress on the playing ps vita game through cfw or anything like that ? have been kinda away from the scene
qwikrazor’s method is still a lot easiear with better compatibility
I’m not into Vita hacking (bought a Vita three months ago or something), but the browser is disgusting. Any chance to create a way to import our bookmarks from PC to Vita, for example? That would be very nice.
Just wondering if rebuilding the database will force to to reactivity my system
Man, I’m so behind the times. I still have two Vitas.. the homebrew one on 2.02. So much has happened since then that I’m lost.
Im new to this i have a vita with latest 3.55 whats never been hacked would this method work for me to get the psp emulator on any advice would be greatly appreciated as im a noob at this thank you
jesus christ i just bought a mini on the ps store to find out when i connect my vita to my ps3 that the game is not listed there to transfer it to my vita…. this is random BS@$%#^$@ why the freak most psp games cant be transfered from ps3 to vita? the only one so far iv been able to transfer is that rocoloco carnival demo, but nothing else… is there something special i need to do to fix this?
