How to make a backup of your PS4 games & data
Note from Wololo: This tutorial was initially published by /Talk member Fuutballer, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Fuutballer won the October tutorial contest for the PS4 (a $10 PSN code) with this entry. You can find the original post here.
You’ll need an external hard drive or USB pen drive to store your existing data from your PS4. Follow these steps to back up and restore your data:
1. Format the USB storage device
2. Plug in an USB hard drive to your Windows PC.
3. Right click, select Format.
4. Choose the exFAT format option.
5. For the allocation unit size option, choose the maximum possible value listed in the drop down menu.
6. Back up data for games

7. Connect the USB storage device to the system.
8. From the function screen, select Settings > System > Back up and Restore .
9. Choose Back Up PS4.
10. Press X to add a checkmark in the checkbox for saving Applications.
Your PS4 will now restart and transfer all the data. Depending on the amount of data, it could take a few hours, to longer than a day.
Now you can copy the data you backed up earlier to the PS4 after switching it on (see below).
Hope you enjoy 😀

what fw did this feature get added in!?! i wasted so much time re-downloading my games xmas last year.
I wonder if there will come a day when Sony says “we are discontinuing all downloaded purchases, you have until XX day to back them up for further use.”
As games become larger and storage for those games will too, I as well predict Sony will eventually do this. Seeing that storing for certain titles or generations isn’t worth it anymore. Not sure when but one day. I’ve backed up my PSN purchases and licenses for my PSP to an external hdd knowing we’ll see a similar message in the future.
So, if I fill up my hard drive, can I back it up to an external exFAT drive and play games directly from it?
Good luck only good luck!!
Good luck only only Good luck!!
Wait just a minute… Is that a way to just backup games or a way to create a “restore point” of your PS4 (meaning copying ALL of your PS4 : games, saves and (more importantly) OFW ???)
Could it mean a potential safety check for potential/future jailbreak ???
Does any1 have a backup with PT demo and EU Region
