Developer Smealum released the source code of his popular 3DS Tool for rom hacks: HANS.

What is HANS for 3DS?

HANS is a usermode tool for the 3DS to hack roms on the fly. This basically gives people the same kind of functionality that was formerly only accessible on flashcarts such as the Gateway3DS or the Sky3DS. This includes romhacks, cheats, fan translations of games, you name it. We have a cool tutorial on how to use HANS for your 3DS, courtesy of our own Typhoon_Neon.

Why Make HANS Open Source?

Smealum mentioned he has been lacking time recently to work actively (or, as actively as he’d like) on the 3DS scene. In order for his tool to receive the love it deserves, he made it open source.

Now, in my experience, making something open source doesn’t mean it will magically get a bunch of updates, but hopefully a few adventurous coders will take HANS to the next level.
