Homebrew 3DS: Smealum updates hax payloads up to latest 3DS firmware
Smealum had announced he was working on some updates to the *hax payload for all 3DS models. These exploits work up to the latest 3DS firmware (10.2 at the time of this writing) and are the defacto standard for 3DS hacking, progressively replacing the formerly popular 3ds hack card systems.
Among other changes, this update brings you eShop access on older 3DS firmwares, supports rom hacking, and adds a screenshot functionality. Smealum published a video that showcases all the new features, and as always you can download the updated hack for your 3DS on his website (link below).

This video showcases the new *hax 2.5 payloads for various 3DS (including the New 3DS) hacking methods, which work up to the latest firmware version (10.2 at time of writing). The new payloads give you access to the same old homebrew you know and love, but in addition packs in some exciting new features, including :
– eShop access on old firmware versions
– rom hacking, which lets you run modded versions of games you own such as pokemon
– in-game screenshot taking simply by pressing the home button
– 3DS CPU overclocking in any game
– sleep mode and power button support
– a bunch of other cool stuff probably
Although this works on all firmwares (9.0 and above), getting the exploits on the latest firmware is not easy at this point, as tubehax and browserhax have been patched (we talked about these respectively here and here). There’s still some hope in the scene though that an updated version of browserhax might return.

vita sucks.. no games at all playstation killed there own console.. 3ds is waaaaayyyyy batter
Actually, the Vita has decent games, better hardware and a good hacking scene, it was the marketing that killed it.

Good ***. All I ever wanted was a handheld that can run OoT and SF64 and emulate. If I can access the shop soon then I can get some shop games and updates 🙂
Does this mean that user mode can actually use the cpu boost as well for the far superior RetroArch emulators?
Good job smea. What I really want to see in the next update is a tool to backup our games on the memory. I have like 20 games, 3 on 3ds and 17 on ds, and I can’t just carry them all the time with me. Also the less I stress the metal pins inside the 3ds the better.

1)You can’t create backups neither play them with userland exploits, you need kernel.
2)You can’t play DS backups with a CFW, you need a DS flashcart.
3)Smea is against piracy so he would never release a kernel exploit.

The new *hax 2.5 also allows homebrew to access the extra RAM available on the New 3DS.
Does this mean RetroArch will take advantage of it on user mode exploits too or only kernel exploits still?
Sorry, but very unlikely to have a better performance for actual homebrew. Vita is the place to be for homebrew, in terms of performance. We just need more devs 😛
I hope someone comes up with a Monster Hunter 4U Mod, some textures could use an upgrade or be replaced, also custom armors and weapons, that would be so cool!
I am currently on 9.9 and havent dared update since tubehax released, but I am lamentinig my inability to access the eshop to update shovel knight for the expansion and grab sonic 2 3d.
Should I update or will this new version allow me to do that even on 9.9?
You can install Themehax, manually update it to run 2.5 and access the eshop.

Go to smealum homebrew site get the new starter kit download, then plop on your sd card go into ironfall load up the ironhax installer homebrew then reinstall from there .. Then reboot go back in you should read hax 2.5 on top NOT 2.1
I don’t think it actually works on 10.2. I just updated my IronHax and now it doesn’t work anymore (Just crashes the app). But maybe I did something wrong. Or maybe it’s the fact that I updated IronHax from within IronHax…

2)It works with Ironhax
3)You can update 2.1 to 2.5 within Ironhax itself.

I don’t think that he’s saying he couldn’t update Ironhax successfully. I believe what he is saying is that after updating Ironhax, it crashes at startup, which is exactly what’s happening to me. I made a back up of the 2.1 save and tried again but after updating, I never get past the initial loading screen for Ironhax (not the main menu, the black screen that says “the homebrew robpin is ready”.
Anyhoo, I hope either you or someone else will be able to advise us on what we may be doing wrong, and instruct us on how to fix this.
I have my 3ds on 10.2 and does not run with ironhax. I downloaded the kit and shows an error also placed the ropbin in the root (renamed it as stated on some youtube guides). what am I missing?
It’s giving me the error: Please save your data in any software currently in use, and then restart the system. How can I fix this? I have a old 3ds X: v. 10.2.0.28U

What can I do now? :c
