PSVita DB Theme Installer v1.0 released!
So, in the past few weeks, a lot of tutorials have been coming up using the E-mail writer exploit, by Mr. Gas and Major_Tom. One of those, and one that has been a very popular one, is the theme installing tutorial, in which it guides the user on how to install a custom theme in your PS Vita using the referred exploit. The thing is, when it came to modifying the app.db, it was not the easiest thing to do, as you had to edit it by hand, with the possibility of messing something up when transfering it back to your Vita.
So, to make this process easier, RedSquirrel has released a new tool, PSVita DB Theme Installer v1.0, which has a nice GUI in which you just have to insert your app.db, fill in your custom themes details (Title, Provider, etc.) and it’ll automaticly generate the modified app.db, ready to be transfered back to your Vita!
As written in the program’s original thread here:
Features:
-Written in JAVA, so compatible with any OS that supports a JVM (Windows, Linux, Mac…)-Removed the need to use any external program (like SQLite Browser) and to find and edit SQL tables/records manually: all you need to do is to pass an app.db and your theme info, the program will write records automatically in your DB file at the correct table.
-Support for SQL blobs: this means that you can insert even a title and an author/provider for your custom theme that will appear in PSVita Theme Settings page. In this way there will be really no difference between an official PSVita theme and your custom theme, like you can view from these screenshots https://www.dropbox.com/sc/mlx08owshhknrnq/AADnXZJR36YbP8IjsuY6qAZga
-Basic and easy to use GUI:
-Application’s window resizable by the user so as to fit any screen resolutions
-Tooltips with explanations on every field:
-Support for drag & drop in the input app.db text field
-The program will check if a record with the same UNIQUE key is already existing so as avoiding SQL errors.
-Ability to insert all params about your theme info, such as version, last mod date, size, etc…
-Ability to calculate the size of your theme automatically (by passing the main folder of your theme the program will calculate automatically the full size)
-Ability to set the last modified date to now automatically
-Ability to create a backup of your app.db automatically before writing changes
-Ability to quickly fill all text fields with default values:
-English and Italian translations
So this should make editing the app.db editing process a lot less messy, and if before you couldn’t find your way around SqliteBrowser, now is your opportunity to try again and get these sweet, sweet custom themes!

Awesome! Now if only I had the patience to make a theme….
You don’t need to. There’s lot of themes around the web! You just gotta search for them 😛
first 🙂 i did this trick before
Hooray for Java! It’s a little clunky for daily use, but the platform independent nature of it is great for console hacking utils. Great to see the Vita getting the GUI treatment!
First, and does anybody have a Link for some custom themes?
First!
AWESOME!
Good job RedSquirrel !!
Awesome. Gonna check this out. Thanx.
does this require a theme able firmware? im still on 3.18
Yes it does. You have to be atleast at 3.30 to be able to enjoy custom themes :/
A tut. Would be nice 🙂
Awesome, thinking about making more themes.
3.55 fw support ?
Wait – RedSquirrel as in RedSquirrel from the PSP scene? Or is this someone who’s just using the same name?
pls some one help me, i have jst one exploit game Ape Escape-On the Loose how do i install Ark and Tnv-11 with jst this one exploit game if possible.
Well, it really depends on what firmware you have, but for 3.50 you could read this articlehttp://wololo.net/2015/04/21/ark-ecfw-3-50-ape-escape-loose-released-us-psn/
Else, search on the interwebs for tn-v ape escape on the loose and your firmware version
I installed ARK on my 3.36 a few weeks ago using the free Ape Quest starter pack.
(I used video tut, see comments too)
