Cemu – Wii U emulator released
Developer Exzap at GBATEMP released a Wii U emulator. It can run commercial games albeit slow.
Here is what Exzap says about it:
- Can run encrypted Wii U images (WUD) and RPX/RPL files
- Internal resolution is 1920×1080 (if supported by game)
- For controller input see here.
- Contains basically no optimizations. Expect slow framerates and long load times.
- Windows x64 only (other platforms may be supported later)
- Requires OpenGL 3.3
- Tested on NVIDIA: Runs fine on most recent driver
- Tested on Intel: Garbled output but runs if OpenGL version is supported
- Untested on AMD
It is slow and it has no audio but it is still amazing to see the emulation of a current gen console at this stage. Unfortunately source code isn’t available for now, we hope it will be available later.

i download it and he told me to get the key first and blablablabla….. it’s FAKE!!
Good joke :). For anyone wondering, yes it is a joke. https://github.com/Exzap/Cemu/releases
I’m confused. What’s a joke exactly? The emulator, or his “it’s fake” comment?
his “it’s fake” comment
You are wrong.. You need the key.. every wii u games came with special keys itself. Google is your friend.
Yet no Xbox emulation yet, well I would like to play Jet Set Radio Future
I just bought a cheap, softmodded XBOX. I can recommend it.
I read this exact same argument earlier on a forum about this WiiU emulator. How strange. Anyway, I present to you this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVwB1jCzkWs
I had never heard of this emulator until today. It’s still early days, but it plays a lot of commercial games and it shows promise.
First!!!
Well, I tried.
Third!!!!
True? Working?
Now i literally have no reason to ever buy a wiiU.
I am happy to know this lets give beers to the devs responsible!
“it is still amazing to see the emulation of a current gen console at this stage.”
I would hardly consider the WiiU “current gen” from a technological viewpoint.
From a technological viewpoint the 3DS is vastly inferior to the Vita, we still don’t call the 3DS a “last gen handheld”.
The wii being inferior to PS3/Xbox360 was still a 6th gen console…
True, but I think that the point is that it is not amazing for the weakest console of this generation to be emulated this early.
Also, Nintendo, to my knowledge, uses similar hardware/software for each console.

2 hours late my friend!
That’s it. It’s done.
This is great! Hopefully I can emulate some small games in the nearby future on my pc!
AWESOME. Give it a few Years and should be perfect. Just have to wait. This and the 3DS Emu going to be great.
A lightning bolt just hit the tip of my peanert.
Impressive ! I didn’t expected it to run comercial games this early !!
I’m glad to see this happening. Nice to see nex gen emu have a good start. I hope the work doesn’t come to a cold dead stop.
Wii u came out in Nov 2012, next month will be 3 years from it, how can you still call it “next gen”? LOL
Very interesting, hopefully it will me made open source and it can get the same love dolphin got, but a Wii U emulator at this stage is very impressive! Especially seeing as it is running retail games.
Oh wait, its fake ha ha typical!
🙂 OMG !!!
Isn’t the source code included with the github download link provided by GBATemp?
nope, only read.me and binary
Cool=impossible!!Whu 3ds emulator?
neat.
Still waiting for PS3 emulation since 360 now has a working emulator that at least 40% work with proper graphics display.
FIRST!
Are the people moderating these articles lazy if thats the case make set a block a for those trolls just posting im first second or third etc lazy.
I’m surprised that a 3DS one didn’t come out first. This is way better than a 3ds emu though.
Already exists, it’s called Citra and it’s a little further along than this. It has some rudimentary hardware acceleration and support for commercial games.
Nice! Thanks
Great News!!!!! 😀
Funny how this gets posted everywhere but not wiiu-emu, which is actually open source.
This should go open some time since there’s only so much one man can do.
This better go open source, would be marvelous if this gets incorporated into Dolphin.
